A friend's wife has a Silver Wing and is interested in altering the forks for easier steering. She has to strain to keep it under control and isn't relaxed and enjoying the ride. This is, by the way a trike conversion. Thanks for any help anyone may have.

I have a 1983 GL650 Silverwing. I could not afford the leading link swing arm front end to reduce the trail. After some study and measuring, I gained a measure of improvement by picking up a set of 1983 Honda V45 Magna forks on E-Bay for not much money. The axel is mounted ahead of the fork sliders. That alone reduces the trail. By pushing the forks up through the triple tree and dropping the front an inch, I was able to reduce the trail by about an inch or more. It is still heavy in the switch backs, but it is much easier to steer at higher speeds. I doubt I spent more than $150 including new fork seals and fork oil. As for my time, it was a 1 day switch over.

Thanks, Mark, that's a possibility. I never looked at it too close as to whether you could raise the forks in the trees. Seems like just a little change here and there would work.

Another benefit from the fork swap was going to forks with stiffer springs designed for a heavier motorcycle. That really helped reduce the front end diving under heavy braking. Be sure to watch your overall ground clearance and speedometer cable lengths.
