Extended Brake Lines on 85 Honda Goldwing (Interstate)
Looking for some information regarding extended brake lines on a 1985 Honda Goldwing, Interstate. I am mounting a leading link suspension on my 1985 Honda Goldwing Interstate. Unfortunately, the stock OEM brake lines are too short to accommodate the new front end. I’ve estimated that the new front end mount will require front brake lines that are approx 8" longer than the stock lines. I contacted Cycle Brakes.com and they’re able and willing to build me the necessary lines but I’ve run into a bit of a problem with determining exactly what this entails. According to Cycle Brakes, the stock lines (FK003D215-2) are 40” and 42.5" respectively. My physical measurements (for the flexible portion of the front brakes only) are 22” and 32” respectively before I add the additional 8"s that I've determined is required is necessary to accomodate the leading link. You can see that there is a significant deviation between my measurements and those indicated by Cycle Brakes. Also, there is a point under the bike's false gas tank where the flexible lines from the two front calipers mate with rigid steel lines. I had intended to only replace the flexible portion of the lines but, prior to ordering the new lines, I wanted to tap the USCA pool of knowledge to resolve the measurement issue and for the following info: 1. Has anyone been through this with an 85 Goldwing, if so, what did you do? 2. Does anyone know for a fact what the actual length of the lines are? 3. Since the current OEM lines mate with rigid lines and I’m going to replace part of them, should I just go the extra distance and replace them nose to tail and eliminate the rigid portion too? If so, any ideas as to what the official nose to tail measurement is on both brake lines. Last, any other guidance/advise on getting this done and done right would be most welcome. Appreciate your help on this as I’d like to get this right the 1st time through.
Thanks, Bljacque
