christmas present...
Hey there everyone...Christmas shopping for the easy take off lid on the
rightside hard bag as I don't want to continue scuffing paint job when I
need to take bag off of bike for cleaning and occasional maintenance.
Anyone out there with info. on where to obtain one of these...?
Thanks for your time...=)
Might help if we knew what "one of these" is off of what bike 🙂
are you perhaps talking about the HD right bag sidecar latch?
it comes with a sidecar - most, nearly all, used hd sidecars are missing a grand + worth of parts that ship with the sidecar but get mounted to the bike..
somebody sells the rig - buyer who knows absolutely nothing takes the sidecar off to sell it seperate, claims its complete because the cheap castings for the mounts are included and calls it a day..
bums me out all the time...
as i get older it HATE salesmen who dont study the item being sold.
*sigh*
when i was trying to buy a sidecar 5 years ago - i passed on 5 or 6 deals, one i had cash & truck and was on the phone... - the guy said it was "complete" i showed up the a packing list for a complete sidecar - when he discovered he didnt have any of the small parts - he would only offer 200 bux discount - i told him to stick it you know where & left.
the next one was at a dealer - i told them i wanted all the parts that came with the sidecar - they said fine, they would pull them off for me - called me up a few hours later all exasperated and wanted the same price for a "incomplete" unit...
*sigh*
duh...my bad fellow hackers , My whole rig is Harley what I'm looking for is the quick easy off
lid for the right hard bag as trying to take out bag with lid attached is a chore not to mention
like I stated before I'm nicking paint off my tour pack every time I've had to remove it...?
Again...duh sorry for being a little short on my description in 1st post...=)~
to get that latch i got ahold of the really good parts man at the local hd shop - and ordered it
125 plus tax
to
ps if he cant find it - the part number is listed on the packing slip of the sidecar mounting kit.. the sidecar mounting kit part number is listed on the packing list for the sidecar - its a little obtuse but using the hd computer system he will be able to find it. he just needs to start with the sidecar and work back to it.

Boy oh boy, are you lucky that you know me!....LOL. Got a pencil handy? Here goes:
1. HD P/N 90670--93 Latch, Right, saddlebag latch used w/sidecar. $62.73 at Zanotti's (below)
2. 523483-93 Rub strip.
3. 90707-00 Saddlebag latch spring.
Note, #2 and #3 are included with #1.

The prices at Zanotti's are usually discounted from the HD MSRP prices.
I looked at another dealer, Latus HD, and it sells there for $95.49 which, presumably is MSRP.

EDIT: I just checked Zanotti's and Latus. Latus shows one in stock and Zanotti's doesn't have it in stock. They would order one for you, I'm sure.
No charge for the parts lookup. I had difficulties in the past remembering where this part shows up. It's included with the sidecar connecton kit and no part number is called out separately within the kit. I got mine with my sidecar in the crate. I was looking in my HD Parts book for 2004 Touring bikes under "Sidecar". It finally dawned on me that it's part of the saddlebag group so I looked there and Voila! there it was. The prices above show that it really, really pays to shop around since Zanotti's is more than 33% less than Latus. The best HD parts sellers online that I've found are Zanotti's, Hale's and Chicago HD. There may be others but as I say, it pays to look around. Enjoy.
(P.S. Ahhh, you do have an HD Parts Manual, don't you? Ahem. )
Very impressive GNM!!

Aww, shucks....'t'warn't nuthn. (blushing....digging boot in dirt before turning and walking away with head and shoulders down.....) 🙂
Thanks for the help 109...? Is this a kit that connects to existing lid in order to be able
to remove lid first than take bag out after removing lid seperate from bag...? If so again Thanks!!!
it makes it so the lid is seperate like on the bikes from the 70's
you take the lid off, then to remove the bag you just remove it.
no strap or whatever connect them at all

Right, as Timo says, it's to make the lid eaasily removable. It replaces the existing hinge mechanism. This is another good reason to never, ever let the dealer install your new sidecar. They will take the original parts and toss them or sell them on eBay and you will not ever be able to change the bike back in the event that you want to sell it and get a new bike. I have all of my original parts neatly in a cardboard box if I ever need them. When my crate came in to the dealer, I told them not to even open the crate. I wanted to be the one to take inventory and make sure that there was no damage. There was none. They do a wonderful job at the factory of packaging.
In fact, it's too bad that we even have to go to the dealer to have them change the TSSM from solo to sidecar on the later bikes for the rollover conversion.
They charged me $47.50 (1/2 hour) for 5 minutes' work to do that job. Little wonder that I stay away from them when ever I can.
By the way, the local dealer offered to install the sidecar for me. they wanted 10 hours. ($950.00!!!) I respectfully declined. It took me about 18 hours over a period of a week but I like to work slow. That was money in my pocket.
