Car tire for Wifey's HD rig??
Would love to hear from anyone that has installed a car tire on the rear of a Road King or other Harley tour (FL) chassis. Wife has had her Liberty car attached for about 6 months now, and it is very apparent that rear tire wear is going to be an issue on longer trips. What size tire and brand would be best mounted to a spoked rim?
i got a 15" x 3.5" car size wheel & run a 145 r 15 tire
lasts and lasts - but its lower - on a liberty you may need to change both the rear bike tire and the sidecar since adjustment is limited - or run longer rear shocks.

My o6 FLHTI has the Tarzian 15" rear wheel with a car tire, sure beats replacing rubber every 8,000 or so. Have over 12k on it and shows very little wear, should get over 25,000 out of the tire. Seems to handle and ride better too...
Are these tires going on the stock motorcycle rim?
My spousal unit researched the car tire thing for months and even called some friends overseas, appearently Yokahama discontinued the only tire that would fit years ago and the stock was eventually totally depleated. You'll probably have to go with a custom wheel like we did, a little pricy, but replacing a rear tire every 2-3 months sucks!
It's a good improvement on any rig...not just HD...much more tire on the road....but if you can stay away from 14" rims...the tires are getting hard to find in narrow sizes...15" is much better.
And Yes, you need special rims... I can't think of a stock 15" motorcycle rim.

Well, I was hoping I would not need to buy a new wheel. So the answer is yes.
the only harley chassis that can hold a car tire with the stock wheel is the newest softails that have 200 tires.
touring bikes - ive tried every possible option - gave up and got a special wheel.
if you really want a bike wheel - then get a fat baggers wide tire kit - those will hold a 205 car tire no problem - but its at least 8 times the cost of a 15" car size wheel.

On EBAY right now is a Harley with a factory 240 rear wheel option... Man that is huge... sure would hate to buy that tire...in the description it said to buy all the parts to make that conversion on a stock bike would be $5k.... think I will just stay with a car tire..

a 145 r 15 car tire fits the chassis with no mods - just the special wheel
its cheaper than any other option
of course just paying hd to change the tire every 5k is not cheap either
