I recently picked up a '82 CLE sidecar and I have a couple of questions about it. The fender tip is missing and I would like to put on one of the lighted ones. Anyone know where I can find one of those?? I know there are plenty of aftermarket ones out there but which one will fit?? What is the best type of tire to put on this sidecar?? Also does anyone know where to find a windshield for it?? It is a NOS car so it has not been drilled for a windshield yet!! Thanks for any help y'all can give!!

Bob

I'm pretty sure you can still get a windshield from HD - the ones with no windshield were sold specifically to police departments to haul *stuff*

make sure you get a sidecar manual and use it - will save you countless amounts of guessing and time. get the manual that is for the newer of the bike or the sidecar - often can find on eBay - can probably still order. there is a chart in the manual that details what it takes to mount x year of sidecar to x year of bike.

Thanks for the info Timo482. I already have the service manual, I got it online!! I am putting the car on a '78 FLH-80. All the mounts came with the car and they look like they will work perfect. Didn't even think about calling HD for the windshield, they don't have any parts for the bike!! If I could find a good picture of a windshield on a HD sidecar I think I could make one. I have an old windshield and the curvature and width fit the car if I cut off the bottom, maybe make an aluminum trim piece??

i guess I've heard that parts are getting "obsolete" from hd for shovels... *sigh*

I've been thinking i should get a pair of brake pads and a caliper rebuild kit for my 04 sidecar before i can't - hmm wonder if i still can.....

my 77 shovel seems like it was new yesterday... gleaming in the showroom in springfield oregon.

*sigh*

Keep an eye on ebay for a windshield. If you search for Harley sidecar, there is someone who makes replacement windshields who advertises there often. I couldn't find a current ad but if I can remember the seller I will send their name to you.

Gustafsson Plastics in Florida makes a number of different sidecar windshields, including three variations for Harley. Their website http://www.bikescreen.com/ Good Luck!

This is where I bought the windshield for my Friendship II, good quality windshields and lots of color tint options.

Thanks for the replies everyone!! I have been looking on Ebay and I'm getting ready to check out the place in Florida. Any suggestions on what type of tire is best for this car and where to get a fender tip light??

Thanks,

Bob

The fender trim pieces behind the light have been the same since 1974. Search for part 59211-74. You will need some t-bolts and nuts for these too. Look up part nos. 3560W, 3561W and 7624 (locknuts). The fender tip light should be 59082-79, this part number was used on TLE sidecars up to 1998. I think it will work for you too, but you should get a 1982 parts book to be sure. There are a lot of these parts on ebay.

timo482,
I have an'03 HD sidecar and the caliper rebuild kit for it is no longer available. An '04 is probably the same caliper.
