What will I need for the install? It came with the mounts. Should I replace the bolts with new ones for safety? How do I tie in the braking system? Any tips you all could give for this install would be greatly appreciated for this newbie!
Thanks!
Hi nothing special required can't see your rear mount details but it should bolt to the rear footpeg mounting bracket with 2 bolts then fitting becomes footrest, front lower should be 2 brakets attached to lower front frame by 2 u clamps each with through bolt to flexi ball joint, upper should be triangular shaped fitting that clamps to the top of the frame just below the tank if you have the tank off it's easier to fit but it can be done with tank on by locking 2 nuts together, front uppur tube fits on a taper & is held in place by a spring & nut with split pins & at the bottem by 2 clamps. i took the sidecar brake off mine but for the brake you will need a replacement fitting with an extra tapping for the brake line it's under the frame between engine & gearbox. i sugest stick with original bolts, if you do change them buy the correct ones, thats all that holds it together. ( better used good quality than new inferior. ) Hank,
lets have some pikies when it's done
you really should get the sidecar service manual - you want the one from 1983 [always want the manual for the newer of the units] and follow the directions.
i have seen those manuals on ebay every so often

also for a 1983 bike there was a stock adjustable raked tree - ive seen them on ebay - there is also a stock headlight ring that corrects the headlight for when the trail is in the lower position for sidecar use - and of course the 4 speed is still exchangeable for the incredibly hard to find 3 speed with reverse.
happy hunting - the raked tree is a really good idea - it makes steering way way better and for the pre 84 bikes you can go back and forth between trail for solo and trail for sidecar in a few mins
