Funny you should ask, that's what i replaced my 145R-13 with and for me it been a problem, I have a Shadow 1100T with a Calf. Companion Sidecar with elc. tilt, the added height has created problems, one was that it put the car in a nose down configuration, I was going to change shocks so I got 11" eye to eye shocks, stock is 11 1/2, that took care of the nose down but it still was way up on the right, there's .600 difference in height but for me that .300 from the ground up made a BIG difference. After I got everything level side to side and for and aft the shock is about 2" to long to go into the swing arm and at this point I'm not sure what I'm going to have to do to be able to get it on the road.
It's hard to beleive that changing the tire made that much difference but it did.
Watch the clearance on the fender, that tire fill up the fender area, when level I only have about a 1/4" clearance between the tire and the fender mount bolts which will be OK when running empty and will be OK when loaded because I jack the body up to overcome the drag.
There really isn't any choice in replacing the tire, the 145's were used on Yugo's, LeCar and early Escortes and the only tires I found in that size were 6 years old per tire date of MFG,,,,no thanks.
Good luck with yours, check it out so you know what your getting into.
hello
My bike is a 1999 1100 ace I also have a california sidecar that i'm rigging togather . I thought that I could change the wheel and put something a little nicer on it. If your having a clearance problem you can loosen wheel axles and rotate down to give you a little more room form the body right???
Did you reajust sidecar frame when you put a bigger tire on it???
maybe thats why its nose down. Because the tires taller
Hi
I could only find a 155x13 last summer and to compensate I lowered the suspension with tilt and not realizing it, the inside of the tire was rubbing on the shock bolt and cut a groove in it. I ended up getting a new tire (same size) and a 1 quarter inch spacer behind the wheel which allowed me to fully adjust the suspension but the sidecar body was high on the right. I loosened the clamps on the mounts and jacked it up level and re-aligned it and it sits higher overall now but works ok. Only thing is with the quarter inch spacer the lug nuts are only using about two thirds of their threads but I check them often and so far no problems.
I happen to have a 155/60/13 on my CF1 car and it works great,..I also have a 155/60 15 on the 02 marauder,...$110.00 for the pair and 10,000 miles and they look like brand new, good luck, crawf
Hello
thanks for the information are you still useing the standard rim (factory)?? I would like to put something a little nicer on mine
I bought a dayton 13x7 rim but i think its going to be alittle to wide
about two wider then factory , mines being restored at the time so I can't tell if its to wide or not
ace
are you still useing the factory wheel(rim)??
yes, the factory wheel is used, I found the lower profile /60/ size vs the /80/ was easier for suspension height and it didn't rub the body,..I run my hack with no balist weight or with my 5 year old @30 lbs in it , if I ran a full weight adult,...the 5 inch bike ground clearance set up would bottom out regularly as the car was designed for a 9.5inch axel height, but I was unable to mount the car that high on the low bike and keep wheel camber/caster correct, hope it helps, cheers....ps. I also added 2" on the frame to raise the body and relocated the body towards bike by 1.5" putting the tire flush to the fiberglass shel . I found it easier to set the frame and trail, then adjust body mounting to suit clearance, it took some time to get it right as this was my first rig build,
do you know how wide the factory rim is ??? I would like to put something a little nicer on mine is kind of beat up. I did'n think about moving body toward the bike to get a wider wheel on it but i guess that would work, what kind of bike is yours mounted to????
'02 suzi marauder 800cc,
nice ride
Did you have any problem moving your body closer to the bike? I bought a 13"x 7" rim spoke but i'm not sure if its to wide what do you think??
no, I unbolted the fiberglass from the tubular frame,..added a 2"x2" square tubing on top of the frame,. then re-bolted the glass down where it suited the wheel well gap with the maximum clearance all around the circumfrance of the tire. It took a bit of time but the results were worth it,..1 handed at 100mph is quite easy on this rig even without a dampener or front end adjustments on a factory rake. ,..car axel is 5 1/2" ahead of the bike's rear axel,...car too far forward or rearward effects handeling set-ups also. ..thanx for the positive comments on the look of my bike & car,..once I paint it I'll be a little more comfortable with it,...rattle-can black was the best I could do,..hehe cheers, crawf. ps. I believe that 155cm = 6 1/8" wide.
tomorrow i will post some new pictures of my friendship one that
has under gone a complete face lift from top to bottem. I bought mount clamps from dauntless the don't fit I guess i will have to modifiy them.
strip the frame and all metal work had it all repowder coated. New wheel bears completed replaced all hardware with stainless, I have a new windshield on the way, I'm having the seat redone to match my mustang seat
body is completely repainted. the only thing i'm still working out is the wheel i'm going to use, and I missing one red taillight lens that i can't find anywhere
as I have heard mentioned here,...check the truck stops as marker lights from big rig trailers may be the same size,..if you remove the whole bulb assembly you could probably set up with a new, small body LED type of custom light..sorry, but I don't have any spares here, as for my windshield,...I fab'd it from a 4X8 sheet of lexan borrowed from work...hehe cheers, crawf.
I yes a lot of people are making there own wind shields from your picture it loos pretty good. I will most likely end up making my own led tail lights I have a few ideas
