Ural Gear-Up evaluation in October Motorcycle Consumer News
Anybody seen the article about the Gear-Up in this month's Motorcycle Consumer news. They completely missed the point about off road capabilities. I sent a letter to the editor, lets see if we get any response.
For the benefit of those of us who do not have the referenced article - what's the issue(s)?

The evaluation would have been more suited to a Royal Enfield. They treated it as though it were a only vintage/retro two wheeler. The two glaring issues were handling and lack of discussing off road capabilities. The section on handling and the testers notes were mostly complaints about sidecar handling in general as though these handling characteristics were unique to the Ural and made it clear that both test riders had no idea how to pilot a sidecar. They also made no mention of what the Ural can do or where it can go, just that it was pretty much good only for putting down 2 lane roads and attracting attention as gas stations.
MCN is usually very thorough and accurate in its evaluations. So while I was excited about the exposure, the Ural, got the cover, I was disappointed about the details. Nothing they said was untrue but I felt the emphasis was skewed.
Thanks for the additonal details, Kent.
