Tyre's, ( Tire's }
its that time again the sidecar on my 83 FLH is a recent fit so i have not a wealth of experiance of tyre selection on this rig. my other beast runs on 15" car tyre's so no probs. having trawled through the faq's i find little or no referance to the Avon SM MK 11 as a choice and yet in the past it was allways the best bet for all 3 corners is anyone out there running SM's who would like to give an opinion before i part with my money.

Check the ply rating for the SM to make it is within the weight limit for the FLH.

sm mk2 were always a good choice for sidecar rigs back in the day dont know if they have been modified or changed in recent years.the profile was good and flat suited to a side car rig dont know about the weight rating you have a heavy bike.when i ran them it was on a norton commando

Where are you in the UK you can join the FED as an associate or check out the CH&IRS website, there may be a club closer than you think.

Hi barry Newark Notts, not a lot of sidecars near where i live, i see the odd one but never when i am riding only when i'm in the car.
I have used the Metzeler BLOCK-K 400X-18 SIDECAR
FOR VINTAGE SIDE-CAR USE on a Guzzi rig with good luck. They were used on the front and back of the bike, the car had a automotive 13" tire. Metzeler will not recomend using them on the bike as they are designed for the car.
thought i'd killed this thread it's a habit of mine, however as i got little or no response i went with the avon sm's & i must say they look the biz nice & square with real tread pattern, only thing was when i went out bike set up was a mess had to adjust lean out as the sm's have a larger outside diameter. as time goes by i will change all the tyre's to match & report back when i see what life they give. on another subject having said i rarely see other outfits on the day i bought my tyre i met a guy on an 04 road king with a watsonian monza, get this he has a firm doing glass fibre moulding, chrome plating & polishing & a brass foundry next door to a tyre fitting company, it was a good day.
