Towing a small cargo trailer

Hi 3way, I have a 96 FLH/Liberty and tow my small cargo trailer directly behind the bike where it's always been. I towed various trailers many, many miles with solo bikes, this one included when it was still on two wheels. I'd thought about moving the hitch to the center of the rig but didn't see a real good way to do that so left the hitch on the bike where it was already. Just got back from the UMCI Freeze Out camp out yesterday afternoon. I'll add a photo a little later on. I don't notice much difference in handling but I notice a big difference in lack of power and gas mileage... It's an anchor being drug behind. ?dl=0

3way, we have a 2005 Goldwing and tow from the center. The biggest advantage is that the trailer does not increase the total width of the rig but I have not noticed a difference in the power or mileage.

I built a small triler to haul the dirt bikes behind the sidecar rigs and I have had no issues with it. I offset the tongue on the trailer and centered the hitch between the bike and side car so that the trailer tracks directly behind the rigs tires.

It has been used as a carnival float also.

I'm sure if the trailer is so light and you're not carrying much, one wouldn't notice any difference in mileage or how hard the bike pulled (power) but if any trailer on any towing rig is sufficiently loaded, the mileage is bound to drop and the towed load will be noticeable. When we had our Kwik Kamp and towed with various solo bikes, people who also towed Kwik Kamps used to say they didn't even notice it was back there. When I'd notice it the most was if we'd pull into camp, set up, then run somewhere on the bike without the trailer after towing all day. Wow!! You'd realize right quick how much difference the trailer made. There is at least one other thread here about towing a trailer and maybe more.
