In July I'm traveling with my Goldwing/sidecar in the back of a 5th wheel RV. Spending 1 week in Breckenridge, CO. Then north to see Mt. Rushmore and west to Yellowstone. We have a RV park in Breckenridge but after that I could use any help in finding a good campground in the Mt Rushmore area and the Yellowstone area. Also if you know of any day trips we should take from Breckenridge and Mt. Rushmore areas please pass them on.
Thanks Floyd

I can't tell you much about RV camping , but the roads between Cody Wyoming or Red Lodge Montana and the Yellowstone North entrance are outstanding. They have lots of curves and switchbacks(read workout) and significant elevation gain and loss. Oh yeah, they are also very scenic. The North and East entrances don't have nearly the traffic as the West and South entrances. The entire park has a 25 mph speed limit and the other drivers seem to forget all the basic rules of the road when they see any wild life. Stopping with out warning in the middle of the road is the rule, not the exception. Other than that Yellowstone was made for sidecars. Be sure to spend some time at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody.

Welcome to the west:
There is a nice KOA "Mt Rushmore KOA" very close to Rushmore. Pick up the green map (all vistor centers and motels/campgrounds.
Side trips in the Black Hills: Any of the roads in the Hills will be great. Musts are 1. To Sylvan Lake -park in the lot of the lodge walk off to the right up on some rocks and look at the lake below-, then loop thru Needles Highway, then up thru Iron Mt Hwy(takes you back to Rushmore); 2. Hwy 385 up to Deadwood - go back thru Sturgis and stop in the Broken Spoke Saloon (bar & motorcycles displayed on walls); 3. Custer State park wildlife loop

I have a GL1800 with a Hannigan sidecar.
I got the sidecar just after they came out with the one that matched the 1800. We have put 70,000 + miles on it. Before this I had a 1500 with a Champion sidecar.

Back to the Black Hills. The neat part about the Hills Is that is compact. That is If you set up camp in the Ruchmore/Keystone/Hill city area you can do most of the Hills and Badlands in day trips of under 150 miles and most much less. The other approch would be to camp in the south end for a few days and then in the north for shorter day trips.

I picked up the"traveler Magazine" from South Dakota tourism and it has most of the RV campgrounds and all the attractions(tourist traps). I would advise reservations at the end of June and would begone by the middle of July as the "Noisy Ones" begin coming 2 weeks early. We spent a week the end of August and could pick our place and name our price.

The afore mentioned map should come with any stuff from SD ot Black Hills tourism but is beside every cash register in the Hills. you will wear out several copies in your map case and you will want one just to record the roads that you have been on. PM me if you would like any phone numbers and have a fun time in the Hills Harold Short

PS Do the Badlands circle and the Devils Tower circle shown on that map.!!
