SPOT $49.99
This is a tracking device that allows people that care about you to see where your at on a map that on your computer plus it has a emergency function that will get you help if needed.
I saw it before. There was a 3 year contract for the service or something which costed a few hundred dollars (I think.)
If it's just $49 with no string attached, it's a very good buy for the peace of mind..
The web site states that the $49 price as being AFTER the manufacturer rebate (in the small print). So it looks like you have to up front the $99 and then go looking for a rebate from the manufacturer. Nothing shows about a contract but I find it difficult to believe the necessary software or service necessary to get the signal from the unit to your computer is free. Although the piece of mind would be good, what is the total cost to get that piece of mind? Does anyone have one of these and can provide more info on it?
The email (spam) I got a year or so ago showed special pricing of the same $49.99 (if I remember correctly) with 3 year service contract which costed a few hundred dollars. So the $49.99 was only the price of the hardware. At that time, I thought a few hundred dollars was too expensive for my peace of mind especially I only hit a fire trail on my XT500 once or twice a year. (I am cheap.)
This ad doesn't mention anything about the service fee. If they hace dropped that service contract scheme, and it truly costs only $49 after the rebate to use the tracking/emergency call/etc. then it's very good. Otherwise...
this will answer questions about fee's
