Now, I have more to think about. Thanks a lot Jay.
Thanks to all for your time and insights into my situation, concerns, fears etc. I must say that Hannigan fits the bill for me in my quest to be a sidecarist. John's reputation precedes him and he has been a wealth of information, which has stimulated me to order the Bandito to be attached to my BMW 1150RT. The prior lurking on this site, the responses to my questions and talking to the professionals was a necessary process for my mind to 'wrap' around such a significant and new endeavor.
Regards to all and I now look forward to the new experiences and contacts.

Kent, I am glad to hear you are getting a high quality Hannigan sidecar. Although I have a DMC M72 that I am totally happy with (I prefer traditional sidecars), I bought a Hannigan Classic Twin for a friend last month. He has done SO MUCH for me the last few years because of my handicaps, I bought it for him to show him my appreciation (we're like brothers, and NO we're NOT gay, not that there's anything wrong with that!). He has a BMW R1200CLC. The quality of the sidecar is outstanding, in his and my opinion and he is very excited about it. It's at the paint shop now. Your location certainly will work in your favor. I know you will enjoy your Bandito. Congrats!

Thanks Jay, friends, family and community...the American way. Barely have any family left, but there's still friends and community. Hope to make more friends in this new phase of my life. Maybe we'll meet somewhere and shake hands.

Maybe at a sidecar rally. If you're ever down this way, look me up. I'll look forward to it!

I have two hannigan rigs. One is the classic you saw in the earlier post with the convertable top the other is a hard top. Both hinge and open for easy entry. One has about 40k on it the other probably more and I have not had any issues with hinges attachment points etc. They are reinforced very well where needed. The quality is very good. 🙂
draperg1, you verify what I've now heard elsewhere, that they are quite sturdy units and hold up very well. I continue to be awed by this electronic medium bringing vast knowledge to our fingertips from throughout the world even.

There was a dmc unit on this forum attached to a v-strom 650 that looked awsome, made me start thinking since i have a 650 v-strom, but i certainly do not need 3 rigs. This sidecar thing is just another disease. Oh well hope you get what makes you happy, but most important the boss monkey must be happy! That is why I am on my 4th rig in 10 years.
Bill, I know what you mean about the disease factor. I've always limited myself to 3 bikes over the years but now that I'm into sidecars, it's getting to be a chronic condition! I've got two sidecars and now I'm thinking about three. I'm going to have to build a warehouse! I like old or retro bikes and sidecars to match (I love my DMC I put on my BMW) but lately I've been thinking a 3rd hack might add a more modern look to my stable. For a modern looking bike, I like (first time) the new Honda CTX700. A modern looking sidecar (Hannigan, Texas S/C, etc.) would look great together. Maybe I'm not as old as I thought!

Jay, you are right about chronic condition, I built a new shop area in 2010, around 700 sq ft, already full. Need to do yard sale and fill with new stuff.
:o:-(
Uh...hmmm....I just ordered a modern bandito to go with my 1150rt. So now I need to start looking for an old style bike and car for different applications??? sheesh...well, maybeee 🙂
heh heh heh, you've caught the disease. There's no cure. You're one of us now!

The only treatment I know of is to keep building and riding rigs. May not cure it but what a ride!!!!!! 🙂
So Kent, How long did John tell you before it's finished? It took a month for my friend's.
I'm e-mailing you a photo of one of my hacks.

I'm coordinating the pick up at Hannigan in Murray, KY with a school reunion in southern Illinois, Carbondale. I'll trailer my bike behind my truck camper to them on Aug. 7, then go back and camp out at Giant City State Park for the reunion, then on Aug. 12 head back to Murray and pick up the rig, then head straight back home to Hannibal. Road Trip! Hopefully they'll take me, on my rig, on my first sidecar ride with me as the Monkey. Being a Zoologist and a retired zoo director, I should be able to fit the bill.
