I'm new here and having trouble viewing pictures added to posts. What software is used to view/open these downloads which are identified as application/octet stream?
I'm running Win98SEsp2 using Firefox 2.0.0.6 as my browser.
Lyn - most of the downloadable pictures are in jpg format and would be opened by whatever the default program for that file type is on your computer.
I've just installed your version of FF and see that you get to define what program to use to open the "application/octet stream". (Not very friendly, is it? :-))
So, click on "Open with" then click on browse and select whatever program you would like to use to view the pictures. You can select firefox.exe and that will work, for example. Don't remember what other programs to view files came "in the box" with Win98...
Clear as mud?
More clear than one might think actually. I know more about my software than I do about my new Ural Patrol but I learn quickly!
