A few weeks ago my wife and I were taking a week to tour around the southern Oregon coast. Two days into it I took a back dive out of the shower and ended up in the local hospital ED. Nothing like being clean & naked for a ambulance ride. No concussion or broken bones, just brused bones where I struck my head, shoulders and hip.
I got released about five hours later, but unable to walk without assistance for a day. Three days later we started the 270 mile ride home, my wife never piloted a sidecar, so it was up to me. I felt every bump in the road. Now I am going through physical therapy and ordered to stay off the bike for at least a month :o:-( Well, the rig has finally got a wax job, fluids changed, and ready for another wax job.

I do count my blessings, things could have been much worst. And it was a good trip, to a point.

There are 3 different companies in Washington offering sidecar classes. They start off by pushing you on the bike before they even get around to starting the engine. Your wife should consider taking the class. You more then likely would also learn from the class. The state pays part of the fee as part of the money you paid for your license. The closest to you is Pacific North West Motorcycle Safety 360-779-6378 www.pnwmotorcyclesafety.com

When I decided to get back into sidecars after 30 years on two wheels, I took the sidecar class at Adventure Sidecar in Oregon ( http://adventuresidecar.com/ ). At the time my wife had to give up her Goldwing because of foot & ankle surgeries (six in six years) and still can't sit for long periods with her foot down. She wants to take a class, but at the present time unable to because of the health problems. She can ride in a sidecar because her feet are straight out in front of her.
For the Oregon trip, we were traveling with two other couples and we had rented a house on the coast. They were in cars and we were able to bring our wheelchair in case my wife needed it. Turned out that I was the one who needed the wheelchair for the trip home from the hospital. By the next day thought I didn't need it anymore, was able to hobble around, spent that first day mostly in bed.

Don't believe everything you see on the inner neck or your doctor tells you.
