Hi,
Are there any forums or groups that discuss Urals, their reliability or lack of?

First off, edit your profile to include the city and state you are in, there might be a fellow Uralist just down the street. Then I'd start out at http://imzwa.secureforum.com/ or
try http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/wagnerscycle/
You can also ask your questions here under the Technical Discussion Forum. Lots of Ural owners here.

That is because the new models are - as long as you understand their limitations. They are back road bikes, NOT freeway fliers. You can ride one coast-to-coast. Just understand you will be doing it off the super slab. Treat them sweet when you break them in and they will return the favor for years to come. Ignore the break-in and you may well rue the day. They are not "gas and go" Yamazukihondas. They do require owner involvement. That is not a bad thing.

The Ruskis aren't dummies. They know they must compete in a global marketplace. The rigs they sell today are a quantum leap over those even five years old.

Join the discussion groups already recommended. You will learn a lot, both good and bad. Keep in mind, however, when you hear about problems you should ascertain the age of the rig being complained about. My Retro is a 2004 and Ural has, with the 2006 Retro, cured the older model's one failing, the rear brake. Also coming this year is a US-made wiring harness and a Ducati ignition system. Constant improvments.

Do I sound like a Ural salesman? I'm not, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!
