Harley 883 V-twins get great MPG anyway (~50 or so). The older GW's mentioned I think rate in the mid-30's even solo.

I'm not a big H-D fan for various reasons, but I bet they do work great as a rig.

I think some are exaggerating.

When the Jawa was still working. without sidecar I got 3,3l/100km = 71mpg with sidecar 4,2l/100km = 56mpg and in one occasion (the trip: travel happy as a cow, but don't ask the cowboy) 3,8l/100km=62mpg. Might that quiet some complains?
However the Ural on its best trips made 8,6l/100km=27,5mpg and on its worst close to Kitwanga, Canada 12,8l/100km=18,45mpg. I am interested how she will behave here in Costa Rica, where appearantly gasoline is better then in USA although we blame frecuently Recope, the only supplier from the state.
So for a 1976 Goldwing 25mpg doesn't sound bad to me. Perhaps with some fiddling and fine tuning the carbs some more miles per gallon might come out still.
Just an idea of somebody who has no experience with such a water cooled beedle engine.
Sven

Hi Bill, the freedom cruiser is kinda long and low in front with a small grill in the front. I don't think the company is still in existence. Boiling Springs is In the western piedmont about halfway between Charlotte and Asheville.

Bob, thanks for the reply! I live in Martinsville, VA but went to school at App State many moons ago so I am very familiar with your part of the country. My roommate at ASU was from the Black Mountain area. I try to make it back to the Boone area several times a year. There are a couple of BMW rallys in the area I try to make. Hope to meet you on the road sometime. Happy Holidays!
Bill D 🙂
