National Rally in New England sometime soon??
Is this gonna occur before the Good Lord calls me, LOL?!
Am old geezer; probably ain't gonna be able to ride my rig too much longer; would LOVE to go to National sidecar shindig in my area[DON'T do long rides any more]. Thanks in advance for any info on this request.
TTFN.....Old Tom aka papasmurf in NH
Well Tom, The rotation has the NE on the schedule for 2010, our 32nd National Rally. I know Chuck, the NE Director has already been looking for a place so hang in there and maybe it will happen very soon.
Great!! I have always wanted to meet some other old hackers. Maybe I can make it to a NE Rally also. God Willing!
Well guys,
It's not quite New England but as it is there are two locations that are being looked into.
One being considered is the Corning New York area this is almost the center of the state down on route 86 (the old rt 17)
cross road is route 15 located about 20 miles north of Pennsylvania.
The other location being considered is in Vermont........well sort of New England.......around the Burlington,Essex area which is roughly the cross roads of route 7 and route 89.
Just a side note.........
As it stands there is nothing carved in stone for either of these locations but,I would like to take a moment to thank **BOTH** people that are looking into a rally site for the Northeast region for 2010 with out people that are willing to lend a hand and help for a location or any other things that are needed,no matter how big or how small a lot of things would most likely never happen.
I cast my vote for Corning, plenty to see between Hamondsport (curtis museum) and great roads between PA and the Southern Tier.
Dave
Its all south for me!
I just did the Vermont Flower Show in Burlington and it is a very beautiful area, also has the Shelburn Museum of Folk art nearby which is real a treasure of American Folk Culture.
No matter how you figure it I am a long way from anywhere.

Scrinch,
Where abouts are you "mid coast"?
How far was Burlington from you?
Both are nice areas. Corning isn't too far from Elmira, NY, which is my usual stopping point for day 1 on my trip out to Vintage days at Mid Ohio. Some good riding there and into Penna. Vermont had some of the best riding in New England. I'll look forward to either destination. Maybe I'll have a rig together by then 🙂

I am just 12 miles inland from the Camden, Rockland Area on Penobscot Bay. Home of the Rockland Lobster Festival, Blues Festival, Wooden Boat show. Windjammer Boats.and best boating this side of the Med. (Great area for a meet except far from everyone else in the world.)
Burlington VT was a 6.5 hour trip but that was with a full truck, hauling a trailer on very frost heaved roads. Summer would be a better faster trip....wait, no that would mean tourists...so probably a longer trip.

Lobster and Blues........interesting combination...I like it,Sounds like you have the same "pavement issues" we do in western New York.........now about the tourist remark......every time that I have been to Maine the people that were in my way,er....I mean driving slow had state plates from Maine on their cars ;)....so..
When in Rome............. do as the Romans do...... which could mean wear a toga if you have the legs for it.
The biggest problems I have with my fellow Maine drivers is that they are too polite or simply don't know the rules of the road, or perhaps both. I have had people stop on a main road to let me make a left hand turn in front of them... on my bike.....now that is just plain dangerous. I have also had people cut me off while I had the right away.
Where in Western NY are you? I lived in Rochester and attended RIT in the 70's . I Loved the Finger Lakes Region.
I am about 110 miles south of sfchock who currently resides in Ra-cha-cha by way of the 90 currently living out side of the small village of North Collins for the last 20+ years or about 45 miles north from the Pennsylvania state line, before moving there I lived in Hamburg which at that time was still quite rural.......now it is another just another mega city with foolishly over priced homes that some of the Buffalo Bills players live in now.
The fingerlakes region is really a nice area along with the catskills area.
Maine and Upper Michigan were states that I always thought I would like to live in along with Nova Scotia.
Growing up in South Detroit with the Ford rouge plant in our backyard may be the reason for that,oh.....no legs so there will be no toga for me.
I also would love to live in Nova Scotia, I just couldn't stand the commute to work. Beautiful place and feels like stepping back 30 years in time.
You must get some of that Great Lake Effect snow of Erie where you are?
Cold here today but slightly above freezing so we can't complain to much or it might get worse.

Always thought that we would make it back to Nova Scotia in a couple years don't look like it is going to happen any time soon,we went there in August of 2001 me the wife amd our then 11 year old daughter with a new bike and sidecar.
Cut across NY to Vermont picked up route 2 took it across NH into Maine and and finally picked up route 9 to St. Stephens,New Brunswick,I will never forget this we pull up to the customs guard at the bridge shut the bike off,he comes out of his duro-shed wanted to know if we were all US citizens and where we were going steped back in the shed and said have a good trip........heck,I shut the bike off for that.....that never would have happened in Buffalo or Detroit.....also believe it has changed there to.
Oh yes we get our share of Lake effect snow it finally melted around the house and in the field out back but the cold doesn't seem to want to quit it was 18 deg. when I went out to start my truck this morning at 5 am only complaining I will do is about the sloppy mess from the spring thaw.
So....Scrinch....maybe we can get you to venture a little west for a sidecar rally?
