I'm curious. How does Harley sell their sidecar rigs in Spain? Surely, they do sell them. I've read that Spain is one of their biggest European markets. A friend rented a Harley (no sidecar) from Costa Blanca Harley a few years ago. Perhaps that would be a good place to start.

Do you have a link showing that Spain is a large market for Harley-Davidson? If that's true, which I admit I have no information, then all our emailer has to do is go to the local dealer in Spain and have them give him one of the elusive "safety certificates". It sounds like you've solved his problem.
Who knew?

No, I don't. I just remember reading an article last summer when they bought MV Augusta that sales were very strong in Europe. It named Spain, France, and Russia as top buyers.

Hello Mike and Tom,
Thank you for the input. I will pass it to Luis.
What Do you have to make for an official approval for a hook and trailer on a rig in US.
I for my part think sa Mike that the rig suppliers and assembler are the ones
who should be able to give an acclaration what is safe and what not.
While all big companies just want to sell bikes without even considering our small group of rig pushers.
Sven

Can't help you there. The only manufacturer that I know who supplies a trailer hitch is Ural. I guess if it was me, I'd get the sidecar approved, then let the trailer hitch "appear" after the fact.

Hi Sven,
Nothing as far as licensing or "official approval". Some might be concerned with warranty issues. I bought my trailer hitch as an accessory when I bought my bike and I had hitches on the two bikes prior to it. I guess we're fortunate that we don't have to jump through the same hoops to be legal as you and Luis. As far as safety, let common sense be your guide. Good luck and good wishes.

I made my resumee nearly a week ago and haven't got an answer from Spain yet.
Who knows...?

Here is Luis reply, it came in just a few minutes after my previous post:
=> Thank you very much for the shown interest in helping me. If Politicians would be made out of such a matter we would be in a much better situation. It seems that is what they have done at entering into the European community.:. They had to homologize the norms. Any travelling citizen of other countries are allowed to circulate without any problem. But we Spaniards must be more fools then the rest and have no idea how to drive with a trailer. They ask us for the impossible to get a homologization.
=> With this absurd morm the only thing they do is bother us who we love this world. We could dedicate ourselves producing trailers, hooks, sidecars etc. means: We could produce employment, and generate wealth for many people. But well what shall we do. We will put on the hook and if some day trafic cops will stop us and make a waiver it will be always cheaper then make the legal homologization. THEY are the ones who want it like this!
=> Seriously thanks for your effort (means the forum) in helping me.
If from here we can help you in something just ask for it.
See you soon
Luis
