Looking to get first rig ideas...
Hi All!
Great site here...been looking around a bit but and thought maybe you all wouldn't mind sharing thoughts or suggestions? Don't mind searching, but my questions are still rather vague and I don't even know, what I don't know...if this makes sense?
I'm looking to get a rig so I can hang out and take my boys (or my wife) on Sunday rides or maybe even longer overnight trips. Wife has a little Yammy VStar 650 which is too small for me and the boys aren't comfortable on after 45 mins....so I am not wanting to add a tub to it....not enough torque and they have weak shaft drive units as well. Not an ideal candidate for a rig.
I've got an Aprilia Tuono Factory and while I know anything is possible with enough determination and money...I'm not looking to put a tub on it either. Likely that I'm gonna sell it off...doesn't really fit with where my head is at right now.
So...given that I want to do local 100-250 miles day trips and possibly longer over night trips (maybe an occasional touring trip to North GA/ Tennessee / South Carolina etc...), what type of rig (tug and tub) would be a reasonable starting point for a newb? Don't have more than $15k to spend but would rather start off on the conservative end of things (say 6-10k).
I love the look of the URAL's but don't think it's for me...I'm more of a paved road kinda guy and I don't have a lot of time to do wrenching as my work schedule can be brutal. Reliability is important too...I've seen a bunch of BMW's with hacks, and some Triumph bonnies as well...love the classic look of the older R90/6 type rigs but want something that is dead reliable and easy to get parts for and that can safely to 75 mph for hours at a time if need be. Toyed with the idea of an FJR or Concours 14...but just don't know which direction to look in.
Thoughts or suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
Mike
