I am a 4th generation Montanan am we've been spoiled with a tolerable Spring climate for the past 10 years or so. This year has been cold, raining, snowing, sleet. You name it we've got it! Today finally we got a break. The sun was shining and I couldn't take it anymore! I have to detach the sidehack off my bike for trailer travel( We full time in our RV) so the time had come. My wife helped me drag the old Jupiter Hack down the ramp and we were hooked to the BMW in about 15 minutes. I envy you So. Cal. bums who ride year round. (Used to live in San Diego so I know how it is)The Russian Generically Engineered Side Car subframe is a scary looking conglomeration but is a quick attachment/ detachment set up. I've wracked uo 1500 miles since I started "Hacking" and the rig works great. The Hack came off a 1974 R90/6 BMW so it fit right on my 1973 R75/5. The first 1000 miles quickly identified the /5's weaknesses. In the last few weeks I have swapped out the 750cc top end for a fresh 900cc top end. (from the donor bike). Changed to a 32:9 final drive, which is one of the lowest BMW finals available. Added a 4 quart capacity oil pan for additional cooling. The stock pan is only a 2 quart. Found a 10 gallon Heinrich tank (which is at the paint shop). Plan on a 600 mile camping run next weekend. Rain,Rain go away!!!! Hack On Ya All. D. Smith

Nice rig. I hear you on the weather. I'm about 6 hour South of you and it was snowing here 3 days ago. Weather sure is nice now though. You're going to like that big tank when you get it installed.

i moved from Miles City MT to Kentucky about 20 years ago,so i feel your pain. one of the coldest trips i ever made was Miles City to Billings.it was 22 when i left the house and dropped ten more degrees and started snowing.the last 50 miles were with feet out to keep from falling down while riding in the snow ruts left by other traffic.(pre-sidecar days).

You must be getting the same bleak weather that Washington State has tolerated the past couple months. I recently went over the Cascades to Pend O'Reille County on the Canada/Idaho border expecting some warmth and sunbeams (usually Eastern Washington is nice and warm this time of year) but when I got there it was the same wet, cold, crummy weather as in Seattle. Now you've confirmed that the miserable weather continued on to the next State over from Idaho.

The good news is that yesterday we finally had a 70 degree day with sunshine and my better half and I got the rig out and went for a delightful spin around town. We avoided the mountains because we are sick and tired of shivering and staid down at lower altitudes. Gosh was it ever nice to drive around in the outfit.
