Hello again.
thank you for the informations. I'm really sorry but there are so many things to ask, but I'm sorry if I'm causing you guys trouble. I want to know the motoryclce with sidecar original price (used ones). I'm not trying to ride them as racing or something. I just wanna ride it to the college and park in the campus or something. Just to ride in the streets instead of cars that's all.
Just like no two sidecar rigs are the same, there really isn't a set price for them.
It comes down to what the market will bear, how good you are at hunting down a bargain, and what you are willing to pay for one.
A basic older Velorex sidecar can be found for as little as $500.00, or as high as $2,000.00 .. it all comes down to what the present owner assigns in terms of a value for it, and how good your bargaining skills are.
If you already have a motorcycle, you need to find a sidecar that will make a good pairing - too light a sidecar and it can be a dangerous combo. Too heavy a sidecar/mismatched rig, and you are spending cash hand over fist trying to teach a hippo to dance with a ballerina, in terms of modding one to work with the other.
As a student, and if you can afford it, if you are looking for economy and versatility, look for a UJM style motorcycle with a full frame in the 450-650cc range, and get a Velorex 562 series in reasonable shape. A 49cc moped type motorcycle is not really a reasonable sidecar puller - they've been made before, but they are more toys than practical.
People have done Vespa style sidecar rigs using a Cozy Rocket or similar sidecar, which have about 150cc's of engine size, in town use/local they should be fine. Vespa/Lambretta style scooters aren't generally cheap, however.
There aren't any legal barriers to sidecar use in any of the US states, there are however, some additional licencing requirements in a limited number of states.. off the top of my head, i don't know which ones.
All i can say is, start researching and reading.. there is a lot of information out there to absorb. Starting with Hal Kendall's online books, that are available on this site free, is a good point to start from to figure out where you want to go from here.
Good luck,
Hi Christy,
I'm thinking it sounds like maybe you'd like a little Stella scooter with a sidecar or something similar. I know there is a Stella web site somewhere and if I find it, I'll come back and edit this and paste the link here... Or maybe someone will beat me to it and post a link for Stella scooters... Good luck!!
Thank you for the information but please don't call me Christy T_T
My name is Chris, my friends used to make fun of me by calling me Christy so please don't call me that.. T_T
'Chris':It is your forum name that is throwing people off. If it was Chris_tyu.. it would be much more clear. As it is now, Christy is a common feminine name... can't blame the posters referring to you by that name without knowing otherwise!
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or something
People don't usually use flat-twin engine do they?
Flat twin, as in a BMW powered R series motorcycle - all the time.
R Series BMW's manufactured after 1969 or therabouts do need special treatment before they are sidecar ready, however. Even the older ones with full frames aren't built to handle the stresses of sidecar usage. The current Boxer series that has been out since the early 90's don't have a conventional frame at all.
Basically, anything manufactured since 1969 or so needs to have a subframe made and fitted to the BMW motorcycle before it's ready for sidecar duty.
Otherwise, an R series or K series BMW is a quite common choice for a sidecar tug.
oh, hey you know, there's brand new one called can-am spyder, 990cc, V-shaped twin-engine... Do you know the exact price of it? it's on my avatar pic.
It's not out as of yet, it's expected to have limited marketing sales release starting Fall 2007 in select North American regions. Expected sales price is in the $14,000 USD/$18,500 Cad range. It's a new concept vehicle, neither a traditional trike (by the North American concept of the word trike), nor considered a sidecar or motorcycle derived vehicle.
Some call it a Bombardier Snowmobile that got lost in a factory and ended up in the Research and Design division.
mm-hmm
Sorry Chris. It looked like that was your forum signature. I still haven't found a good Stella site to post for you...
no no, I'm the one who should apologize, asking too many questions..
