Hannigan "Steer-Lite"
does anyone here have it?
If so, what can you tell me about it?
LOL I just responded to your post on AVRider... here's my take:
I do - and (I think) it rocks! This was the trail-reducing option for my BMW RT/Conte Classic set-up by Hannigan which I have just received - I have only had it a week and due to circumstances beyond my control [work, out-of-town] have had limited ride time... what I can tell you from the minute it rolled of the transporter's trailer was WOW! I have had only a few hours on it, but would recommend it, hands down.
To quote Claude Stanley, one of my trusted advisors, "The principle (of the Steer Rite) ...moves the front forks forward at the bottom which reduces trail for easier steering effort. This assembly also includes a heavier spring than stock."
Please note, I am pretty new to hacking, but my previous rig had no front-end mods; when people claim it is like adding power steering, they ain't kidding!
Hi Beth,
Thanks for your response here, as the Adventure Rider one was, lets say just a little vague.
I've followed your ADV posts and like the looks of what you had done. I'll be heading to Hannigan on the 26th of the month to look at a Bandito that they said they would have in. I think it will go well with my 07 RT.
If you can keep me posted and every one else I guess as well on how the new rig is.
Mike
I have an '07 Goldwing with a Hannigan GTL bought as a turnkey rig from Hannigan. I drove 2 identical rigs before buying - one with, one without steer-lite. There's a noticeable difference. It was a no-brainer for me to go for it. I also have a 'Strom 1000 with a custom CSM dual sport chair. No steering mods. A lot more work, particularly on long hauls.
I had Pete do my bike and what a difference, this is a good guy to deal with, good work and a quick turn around, give him a call.

I put 40,000 miles on my past 1200LT without one. 30,000 more with it. Made all the difference in the world. Solt old(02) LT and got present one. Immediately had Hannigan put one on new rig. I would recommend it highly. J.R.
I have it on my V-Star 1100 with a Hannigan Classic sidecar. I rode without it for the first couple of years and then tried a steering dampener. I then had my triple trees modified by Steerite. It's like
riding a whole different rig. It's a much better riding experience with the Steerite conversion.
I had the Triple Tree on my R100RT modified by "Side Effects" in Canada for $740.00 back in 06. From the responce I see here what I have does the same as the "Steer-Lite" It was like Power Steering.
If you want more info on "Side Effects" E Maile me at jethridge4@cox.net and I will give you contact info, or E Mail them at: sidecars@ocis.net
Contact at Side Effects is Peter Smith and e-mail is "info@sidecars.ca" phone number is 250-573-2364 M-F 8:00 Am to 4:30 Pm. He is a wealth of information and I have a new triple tree from him sitting on my workbench just waiting for me to install it. Kind of got put on the back burner after shattering my ankle and tibia last November. Should be able to start working on it in the next couple of weeks. Really looking forward to see the effect of this modification.
