hackdicted
Hi all....this is my first post.
Today, Rusty (my lab) and I surpassed the 7K mile mark riding together. An auto accident in 2005 ended my two wheeling days and forced me onto a rig....I now firmly believe that everything in life happens for a reason... The 3 of us (Rig, Rusty and I) are inseperable. I haven't had this much fun since my first mini-bike, A Sears model my dad brought home in 1971.
That's the way it ia suposed to be
Welcome Ditch! Do you and Rusty "do" rallies? There are a few relatively close to you - The Keystone Campout, the RonDeeVoo and the Hack'd rally. There is a complete list here:

Thanks Steve....no, we haven't done any rally's yet. I'm looking forward to meeting other enthusiasts....I feel as though I no longer "fit in" with the two wheeled crowd...do other sidecar pilots feel the same way?
Personally, no, not really, but I can see where you are coming from. Go to a two wheel rally and unpack a ton of stuff from your sidecar and the solo guys sure get jealous!

Not in the least. But I think my riding partner makes the difference. Rusty should do the same for you. It sure would be cool for Archie and Rusty to become buddies at a rally sometime...
Hey Tom,
Well, I've been riding various forms of two wheelers for over 30 years and Harleys since 1986. 20 years ago I think there were 2 HD personalities, those that were loyal to the brand at any cost and guys like me who wanted to give Willie G and the "new" HD a try. Today I meet a lot of guys whose first bike is a $20k Hog with $5k worth of chrome or a $50k chopper that can't be ridden more than 100 miles a day without suffering kidney failure. Anyway I feel like like a pariah at Harley functions...one cat a few weeks ago asked me if I got the sidecar because I couldn't handle the Road King by itself.

Hey Tom,
(SNIP)...one cat a few weeks ago asked me if I got the sidecar because I couldn't handle the Road King by itself.
If he can't take the hint from my handicap sticker, I will sic my dog on him and let her lick him into submission. LoL Wonder what he would think of my Goldwing and sidecar rig? NOT!
I hate to admit that I used to think people who rode on three wheels did so only because they couldn't ride on two for what ever reason. And one of my long time ridding buddies lost his right leg up high in a farm accident in the early 60's and still rode on two wheels but that's a story for another time. When my wife decided she wanted to give it up after many years of riding behind me I thought I'd see if she'd like a sidecar. And it was a good excuse to buy the Ural after a few years of being intrigued by a buddy's Ural. Wasn't sure I'd like it but thought maybe Barbara would or maybe Archie would. Well, I loved it and so did Archie. Barb didn't so much. But I sure found out how much fun hacks are! A whole new thrill. So for a couple years the Harley mostly sat while me and my new best riding buddy rode the Ural. Sold it and ordered the Liberty and the rest is history.
Granted, there are times on the road that my wave isn't returned but those folks are welcome to their own little narrow world. Even when I had my misconceived perception of what three wheels was all about I'd never fail to return a wave. Oh well, now I never miss the opportunity to let others know how much fun it really is.
I agree that it is a whole new thrill....I'm totally addicted to the rig. Rusty and I ride to the job most days....same route....and it's a different ride everyday....Funniest thing....the people MOST likely to approach and start a conversation are the people who would normally be the LEAST likely to talk to me on 2 wheels....although a dog in the chair is pretty inviting
I have been riding sidecars for 60 yr's. Have more time on three wheels than two .When you are on a hack more people will talk to you than when your on two.You will also be seen better on the road
Having just gone to sidecaring, I'm starting to enjoy it in a different way.. As far as two wheelers ignoring us, I haven't found that to be true. I told the VRCC group that, after ridng since 1948, off and on, on two wheels, I've paid my dues. Besides, The rig really attracts a lot of attention.
Once my rig is on the road, which should be very soon, soon being within the next 2 1/2 weeks. I may be slow, but I eventually get things done. LoL I'm waiting for that first person to notice all my camping gear, on my rig and asks the question, where am I going? My answer is quite simple, wherever the road takes me or I have a fancy to go to. Oh for the open road, I've so longed for it for some time now.
Hi Ditch,
Just wanted to comment on that thing about getting a sidecar because you couldn't handle your bike by itself. We just got home Sunday from Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, SC. I think that I counted at least three or four Harley rigs just in the parking lot of the resort where we stayed. I see lots of guys piloting Harley rigs. I've never noticed that any of them seem to be shunned by the other bikers.
Ride proud, it's your bike!

Howdy,All--This is a good thread for me to jump in on and introduce myself. I've just volunteered to take on the responsibilities of USCA Arizona Rep. I've been a hacker as long as I've been a solo bikerider. A bird doesn't fly on one wing and I think everyone should have both a hack and a solo bike. This "Can't ride solo anymore?" horse puckey really frosts me. My response is, "I see you're still riding two wheels. Well, hacks are pretty hard to drive." (Chuckle)'gards to allArt
