My mpg is looking prettu good. Since I have only owned the Hondasauras for almost 3 weeks
I have so far only checked the mileage twice, First time 105 miles 3 gallons of gas
lots of slow speed 1st and 2nd gear pracice and about 40 miles at speeds in the 25-45 range.
Today 136 miles 3.4 gals of fuel with most of the riding in the 25-45 mph range and about 14 miles of 55-65 highway riding. I guess 40 mpg is okay and If I didn't mention it I do carry about
125 lbs of ballast in the cargo box. I still thing I can do better. Jim in Denver

Interesting. I went 100 leisurely miles yesterday. Average speed, 45-50.
Mileage 33mpg. Highway speeds at 65-70 it's 28mpg. I'm ok on that.

James, try and forget about the gas mileage, and just enjoy the ride. If you get too obsessed with keeping trqack of and getting good mileage you will be losing out an a lot of fun...
just gas it up and ride!
if anything, just mark down the odometer miles when you fill up and ride till you go on reserve.
I have a truck and a Malibu, and could not even tell you the mileage i get with them.
My BMW /5 with SC gets around 32 on a trip...whatever speeds I'm going.all I need to know..150 on the tankful, to reserve. plus the aux tank in emergencys.

Yes James, try to forget about it. But in the back of your mind your thinking, there is some Bozo (Me) out in Southern CA., getting 22-26mpg with his Dodge Cummins 3/4 ton truck and over 100 mpg with his bikes.

You do like to gloat, don't you? Well, we'll see what happens when youur diesel special breaks down in Death Valley, or maybe even Santa Monica. you won't find parts for it at Napa, now will you?

Instead of telling us how your fuel mileage is, how about letting us in on the hours of development and money you spent?

Forget the fact that I and many I know wouldn't want to be caught dead riding something like that. I do have pride, you know. I sure don't want my clothing to smell like a Big Mac or Sweet and Sour Pork.

You can make fun of Harleys, BMW's and Hondas all you want but at least we can buy parts.

Nice talking to you. LOL

Seems to be about time for some "deep breadths" and a nice relaxing ride!
Sidecar Ron (who has only run out of gas once - when the bike was in for servicing and I didn't know how much it had been run 😉

I'm not gloating at all, and where did I make fun of anyone or any brand of bike. I just stated my fuel consumption figures just like everyone else. As for money and time, I'm disabled on a very tight budget. I'm just lucky enough to have the knowledge and a few tools to be able to build my own bikes cheap. You keep your pride, and ride what ever it is you ride.

By the way, I did a loop thru Death Valley alone at midnight, just beautiful, full moon, thunderstorm to the east, almost 100 degrees on the valley floor, 600+ miles on 5.5 gallons, (Barstow-Baker-Pahrump-Indian Springs-Amerigosa Valley (took 2.8 gallons)-Furnace Creek-Wild Rose-Trona-Cramer Junction-Barstow (another 2.7gallons). I love Death Valley, you should come down from Sacramento and see. Maybe I'll come by and wave when I see my kids in Woodland or visit my friends in Oakland/San Francisco).

As for parts, Napa has everything I might need, oil filer, oil, Battery, my engines that I use are common, even my Turbo Diesel is sold thru Briggs and Stratton or Kawasaki (Diesel Mule).

My Dnepr is being upgraded to a GL1800 final drive and a Noram Tri-Lobe Centrfugal Clutch, all common parts. I have over 30,000 miles on my Hatz 2G40 engine, and it just now breaking in. All my other engines are brand new, I'm not at all worried about break downs anywhere.

Aww, I was just funnin' ya. I'm borderline disabled myself, I have the left leg from hell.

The actual fact is that most of us either don't have the skill to build our own bike or lack the inclinaton.

I prefer to concentrate on small improvements to the rig that I have. Now that I've got it up and working, I'm going to be building a solenoid shift mechanism for changing gears. I already have a prototype that has more than enough force to do the trick. I just have to package it now.

Other units are available likle Klicktronic and Pingel but they want 7 or 8 hundred bucks for their units. I've got about $25 in the design that I've built so far. Ha.

I've been to Death Valley from Sacramento several times. I used to go to Laughlin, Nevada every year for the bike gathering. We also used to camp at Furnace Creek or Stovepipe wells. You have to really be careful in Death valley. Fuel stops are few and far between when you come in from the Lone Pine side.

Also, as I'm sure you know, there are no services whatsoever. There is not even a bus that runs to Las Vegas or Beatty. You have to have a dependable machine when you go there.

Happy Trails!

You still keep avoiding the original questions. Is this thing capable of maintaining Interstate speeds for long distances and if so, with what kind of a load? I will repeat that I define Interstate speeds as 75 to 80 mph.

Yes, and all day long at full load.

Will a Dodge 5.9 Diesel 4x4 out run a V10 Viper?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6681905275431367990&q=viper+diesel&hl=en

How long do you think your Ural would survive @ 75-80mph?

The Honda is geared for 80 @ 3600rpm (one speed) 55mph @ 2500 ideal cruzing/fuel economy. I'm tired of going fast.
