I'm finally getting running reliably on my new to me '85 K100rt/EML GT2 hack. Did all the fluids and filters, side car wheel bearing, rebuilt leaky water/oil pump, lubed splines, new plugs, balanced fuel injectors, cleaned up some sloppy farkel wiring, etc. I was really curious as to what kind of fuel mileage I would get so I filled up the bike tank and the 11 gal aux tank and ran it close to empty. I monitored the total mileage with both the trip odometer on the bike as well as the trip mileage counter on my Garmin GPS. Here's the results:

TOTAL MILEAGE: GPS = 563.4
BIKE=604.0 (+7%)
TOTAL GALLONS = 15.5
CALCULATED ACTUAL (GPS) MPG = 36.4!

This is for combined city/hwy driving with around 70% hwy. I live in the boonies in Florida 10 miles from nowhere and so when I'm out on the road I'm typically running 55 to 65 mph for most of my journey.

This mileage is much better than I expected and I was just wondering what others, with similar rigs, are getting. I recently filled up and reset all mileage counters and so will continue to monitor for verification.

I can't say similar rigs, but when I was manufacturing sidecars back in the 70's and 80's my customers would report back to me averages between 35, and 45 miles per gallon. I got 42 on my Honda 750 that I drove for almost ten years. So over a period of almost forty years not much has changed even though many of the newer bikes have fuel injection units controlling the fuel demand. I would think that some that are driving the heavier rigs get a much lower number.
I thought some would find this interesting.

Lynn-- What I have found with my 85K100RS/emlgt2 is-- It "all depends". I spent an afternoon fighting the wind in NM. with my SO and luggage and got a whole 22mpg. An other afternoon I was obeying the KY. 55mph with only my luggage in the car and got 39mpg. Most of my 2 up touring is in the mid to low 30s Harold in Kansas

Lynn, I have an 09 Harley SG with a Liberty hack. I have a little over 4,000 miles on the combination and I have averaged about 40 MPG. The worst I have gotten is about 38 MPG and the best has been 42MPG. I check the mileage frequently, it is just a thing with me. Also, I don't ride this rig hard or fast. I run 65 MPH or so on the highway and usually around whatever the posted limits are.
