We have taken out little dog with us on many sidecar rides and a few trips without any problems. While traveling she (dog) wears a harness while in the sidecar as she sites with my wife.
Our concern is when stopped to eat or staying in a motel. While eating we mainly just eat at fast food places where we can watch the sidecar or sit at outside tables with our dog with us (always on leash). If it is trip that involves overnight we plan ahead to reserve a room that accommodates pets and do not leave her alone in the room. We found out that when alone she will remain quit unless she hears noise outside the room, then will bark until the noise goes away.

Now my question, if there is a answer. We will be attending the rally at Lake Chelan again this year and this time would like to take our dog. But there are events that do not accommodate taking a dog to (like the lake cruise, awards breakfast, or when the group eating inside a restaurant. Our sidecar has a convertible top that can be put up and our dog will be secured by harness, But this would not stop someone from stealing her. About the only thing I can think of is to secure her with a chain or wire rope & padlock to the inside of the sidecar. Most passerby's probably would not be carrying bolt cutters with them.

A few weeks ago it was in the news that a couple had their dog stolen out of a lock car while the owners were inside a restaurant, so it does happen. Years ago I had a doberman fully trained and leaving him alone was not a problem, but our little 18 pound setizu will only lick you to death.

I am a dog lover and take my Aussie with me often. I always keep her in view when I leave her in the hack for a short time, and that is rarely. My advise is to leave your treasure at home and secure on this type of trip. I would never leave her unattended. People do steel dogs. And besides, you probably would be worried about her safety while your gone. A steel cable will not stop someone that is determined from taking your pet.

Thank you SamB, I agree with your thoughts and I think we will just leave her home. My wife won't be too happy but we would have to skip too many of the events at the rally. We continue to take her on trips that only involve our schedule. We have an excellent house sitter to stay with our little dog & cat.

And it might be hot at the rally. Lake Chelan can get really warm. Even though it is in May one never can predict what the temp will be.
