Wonderful! I was in Germany about that time (Early '50s judging by the vehicles.) Good job. Mike

Thanks, Joyce, this was fascinating. In Atlanta they have cube vans performing the same duties on the expressways. However, you
dont dare trying to walk across the lanes like they did in those days. To do so is to commit suicide!!! Things were a bit simpler in
the 50s!!!!! Again, thanks for one of the best sidecar videos I have seen.

The other countries had their road service earlier.
The video tells that in Germany they started in 53 with 50 rigs and had in 54 (date of the video) already 100 rigs.
Each sidecar had about 200kg weight doesn't tell if load or gross weight but easily they might have had the mentioned 440 pound in load. Only tool box like the shown one weights not less then 30kg.
What I like and see as important aspect is that ,those "rettende Engel" = "rescueing angels" were true trained mechanics and with frequent upgrading training courses.
(not as in many modern companies "trained monkeys" as I see now daily in Costa Rica in the call centers or factories)
The statistics they started in those days was used for improvements in improvements for road safety, training ,.......[note: the statisticsfrom ADAC is used still today and is one of the most important inputs for automotive industry and many Germans at the moment to decide which new vehicle to buy]

I got amazed what heavy traffic jams they show there. I grew up in 70ies and cannot remember that heavy "Stau" ever.

Enjoy.
Sven
