It's not a question of if I want to take him in the sidecar or not. I do want to. And when I'm working on the bike and hack he's always in it and making engine noises and such.My fear is that he will try and jump out durring the ride. I think a lap and belt setup and his car seat will be the way to go.

Now I understand Keorange.
Comet.....i think that may pull up to much
My plan is to put a connection on both sides of the helmet near the visor mounts or temple areΓ€ and run the strap around the seat or bar in the seat. That allows the strap to move so he can turn his head but not fall forward

Perhaps some sort of pulley or roller in the rear to allow smooth movement?....That sounds like a workable set up.

My son started riding in the Hack at 4 years old...and that was last year. My wife rode with him all of last year, but has started riding on the bike with me this year, giving him and the dog more room. We have a California FSIII with lap belt and high sides on our rig, and I don't let his butt leave the seat while we are moving. All three of us have intercoms, which makes it easy for him to communicate when he needs to stop, or tell knock-knock jokes while we are out and about πŸ˜‰ We bought him a full face youth helmet, and he seems to have no problem holding it up. It will be the most fun you'll ever have on a motorcycle....guaranteed! Where abouts in MN are you? We live in Hastings

nice rig there!,looks like all are having fun,..hehe ,..I just wanted to clarify that the Haans device is not for the little one who struggle to hold up a helmet,..but to prevent a neck-breaking wip-lash movement on impact, like the one that killed Dale Earnhart sr. , the heavy helmet and delicate structure of the little one's neck is a uneven balence for sure, securing the helmet is just to prevent injury,..p.s. don't forget the 12volt so he can watch his movie player,..hehe cheers crawf.

ok I have just started planning the new Haans device . I bought some balck nylon strapping like the helmet straps and some D rings and snaps to attach to the helmet snaps. Once I get the started I will post how I made it pics and completed pics in the rig. Now I do have an unusall advantage . the carseat for my grandson has a 2 piece seat back and I can run the strap between them so he can look left and right and still have the strap keep him from moving front to back

So far the Helmet style nylon strap that I made is working fine.. I put snaps on both ends and attach it to the lower 2 of the five helmet snaps. I have the Dring setup on the left side so I can easily reach it when he falls asleep to cinch him back tight to the seat. Oh the strap I ran thru the car seat shoulder harness slots and he is able to turn easily.

2 weeks ago we had to take evasive maneuvers to avoid being run over by a large city bus in a roundabout in Hagerstown MD and Aiden didnt even complain . He stayed securley in his seat as I almost ran up the curb and into the center of the circle casue the bus decided he didnt have to YIELD to the bikes already in the round about. He just stood on the airhorn and plowed right into the line of bikes. No accident s or injuries but I turned so hard that I rolled my right side controls and pinched the internal wiring in the handle bars and shorted out my ignition fuse. BUT MY AIRHORN STILL WORKED mine says its 120 decibles so I am pretty sure he heard it.
I will try to get a picture of the strap on here soon

Cyclegear.com sales street helmets for kids, most doctors say a child should be 3 before wearing any type of helmet, my grandson started riding when he was 3.5 years old, he is 6 now and still can't stay awake if we ride over 10 miles
