I want/hope to hit the road with my 100lb Rottie in the hack.
I wonder if someone experienced in traveling with their dog knows if a good safety harness is available. Also looking for travel gear that will fit her.
I am also thinking about removing the top of the car and putting a crate (pen) in the bottom half for her to ride in. That may be a problem due to size. She us a plus-size gal, so her plus-size crate my not fit.
Obviously safety is my greatest concern
Thanks in advance, gang

Sarge

If you want a quick, well maybe not quick, primer on sidecar dogs there are 72 pages of it currently here, http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/hacks-n-pups.295048/ on ADVRider.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for but several riders making comments about their experiences in the movie Sit, Stay, Ride, the story of America's Sidecar Dogs. Watch the trailer or get a copy of the DVD at www.sidecardogs.com. Or a YouTube search... And if you're on Facebook there is a Hack Dogs page there as well.

Very familiar with this topic (I'm one of the riders in the Sit Stay Ride movie, frequent contributor to the AdvRider forum mentioned above, and my dog has about 30,000 miles under his collar) and I can honestly say that I've never seen a sidecar dog in a crate. Nevertheless, I can kinda picture it for a little dog, but for a 100-lb Rott? Nope.

You don't mention what kind of sidecar you have. That makes a difference. But, generally speaking, just get her a good solid harness and tether it solidly to the car. Since she's female, the Ruffwear WebMaster would be a good choice. LINK

Also lots of good ideas in this thread on AdvRider. It's about 4 pages long so won't take too long to read--

Please show us how you SECURE YOUR DOG in your HACK

For eyewear, if you don't plan on high speeds or you don't expect to do long days, a set of Doggles is an easy choice. (No link for those--you can find them anywhere.)

For more serious protection, consider RexSpecs. I started a thread here recently about them -- LINK .
