Since California Sidecar no longer sells sidecars, I expect someday I will need to replace this taillight lens. The back up light tells me this fits a car and the sidecar was designed around it. The SAE number on it is A 85 PP7366. The old rule with american cars was that the first two digits identified the year of vehicle. If that holds true, this would fit something around 1985.

Any ideas? Both the parts house and the salvage yards are of no help. Anyone recognize it? Or maybe somebody else has already chased down the source?

Thanks,

Mike

That is a VAST pool of plastic to try and identify. It has a certain Honda-like look to it... CRX maybe?

CA Sidecar is still in business, why don't you give them a call and ask? (?)

I've spoke to them three times. Each time I was told they no longer do sidecars.

That's not very nice of them is it... ?

87 CRX

I posted on a "design" website that I know some transportation designer types hang out a lot. These guys live and breath stuff like tail lights, door handles, headlight reveals and stuff.

Consensus is that it's from an '87 Honda CRX (or there abouts).

No, it's not. But anyone who has tried to get information from them about old Cal. mounts or those elusive round lenses for the Friendship one will tell you this is not a surprise.

Thanks for your help. car-parts.com tells me a local salvage yard has one on the shelf. I'll take a run over there next week and compare.

Maybe they can ID the front one too. 🙂

That's what's cool about "consensus" it can change: the tail light is from a first-gen Acura Integra (86-91)

The "85" in the part aside, I think this is the one.

I think you're right! As a mechanic, I always told folks that the numbers on the light may not be accurate, because styles carry over. Once again, Car-parts.com says a local junk yard has one on the shelf. I'll go over and verify that it is the same and report back. As I said earlier, I don't need one now, but that doesn't mean I won't in the future. I'd rather not start the research after the old one breaks.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me figure it out.

Mike

Whie I don't have a CSC I do have a Champion Escort that was designed by the same person/people. The '02 looks much the same from the pic and may be an exact match. On the housing mine has:

Stanley 043-7365R, SAE AI(3), P2R(2), S(3)T, 83 Japan DOT

If you take a front one out you can see "volvo" on it.

I want anyone trying to find the Escort / Champion sidecar tail light to know they no longer make it. It is (86, 87, 88, 89 Acura Integra ) tail light.
I order to take old one out there are 2-3 screws holding it in on the inside top side and maybe one on the bottom sometimes. and some sticky tape.
If you get a replacement one , you will have to do some trimming on it. Used on EBAY $45. to $100. U.S.$ no aftermarket ones being made @ all.
Hope this helps anyone looking! As it took me a couple days to figure it out.

Check with http://www.car-parts.com. I found one 10 miles from my home, for $15.

Florida Sidecar generally has one listed on ebay. Just search Champion Escort and it should come up.
