Can I take my rig to England?
Since I am close to getting the Hannigan sidecar on my Wing, I have a plan for the VStrom. A good friend has been tranferred to the UK, and will be there for 3-4 years. I would like to ship my rig there, and leave with him. Then, I could visit and ride it all over Europe.
I have found a shipper, and insurance seems possible (although expensive). The issue seems to be the UK regulations. As near as I can tell, it is pretty easy to take it there for 6 months or less, as long as it is registered in the US.
The issue is if i want to leave it there over a year. I originally thought i would just put the rig in Butch's name, let him register it.
However, the car in on the right side. Does anyone know how I can verify what the rules are in registering a sc rig in the UK, particlarly if the car has to be on the left side?
Also, Butch (my friend) does not have a motorcycle license, although he says he plans to try and get one in the UK. Are there special sidecar rules there?
My suggestion would be for you to look for a motorcycle sidecar club in the UK and direct your question to them, otherwise you might make inquireys with the Interier Ministry of the UK or the Tourism Board of the UK. Good luck, don't forget to have your passport in order well before you plan to go, depending on where you are, their could be several weeks delay in getting a new one and not much less in updating one if you already have one. Overseas shots are another thing to plan for.

Hi gregbenner
You may try someone here for the legality of having you're outfit here (G.B) for longer than 6 month's. I think at the moment that a sidecar on the right-hand side is not legal if it is new.But hey ask these guy's they'll know.
