This will likely be a strange question for the forum, however, any good ideas for mounting a mountain bike to my rig? I have a 2011 Ural.

I am currently designing a bracket to carry my wheelchair while retaining the ability to carry a girl on drive by shooting assignments.

Put the chair in the car, and the girl on your lap?

May not be practical, but it'll be a lot more fun! 🙂

Come on guys, it's the second post from a newbie, give him a break and a serious reply to the question.

Mounting a square tube, of the right size, between the bike and sidecar could create a receiver hitch at the rear. There are many sidecar rigs equipped this way and there are tons of bicycle carriers made for receiver hitches. I've seen square tube welded on and I've seen it put on with clamps. Welding is better but clamps would let you try things out without making a commitment to the solution.

Good luck!

Several guys have mounted their mountain bikes on the Urals as Al pointed out using the trailer receiver hitch. You can search their posts on Soviet Steeds. One of the more unique bike mounts was mounting a square receiver tube under the sidestep going forwards, then remove the front bicycle tire and strap on . Pretty cool. Will try to find that link for you.

On one of my rigs (and we have also built rigs this way for customers) I made the front tube of the rear rack and the rear tube on the front rack the same diameter that Yakima racks use. This way I can clamp a Yakima rack system to the racks on the bike. I have carried my Burly tandem mountain bike this way however it does not allow for a passenger in the sidecar. A similar thing could be rigged with the rack ending up over the sidecars wheel.

Thank you all for the ideas and helpful links with pictures. I guess I'll need to make a trip to the junk yard and see if I can get some scrap to build up a rack mount. Cheers.
