Best Insurance
Hi All,
With spring just around the corner, a BIG long corner here in Leavenworth Wa., and being a new owner of a side hack I would like to know if there is a preferred insurence carrier, with that spendy little item hanging out there surely there's one Ins. Co. that comes out on top.
Thanks for any help given,
Ted

It really seems to matter with your location and driving record. I find Progressive to be less than half the price of anyone else and excellent service, but I've been with them since 1968. Other's here have posted problems or high rates with them, so it's best to do your own checking.
One thing to watch, I had a friend recently switch to Geico because they quoted him a really great quarterly rate. Three months later, when it came time to renew, the bill they sent him was almost three times higher than the original quote. They said they made a mistake when they figured the original. Needless to say, he went back to his old company.
Some companies have weird value systems as well. Occasionally we compare to make sure we are getting a good deal. One company, I don't remember who it was, considered the sidecar to be an "accessory" just like a set of running lights or custom seat. They said all accessories combined could be valued at no more than ten percent of the bike's value. In order to properly cover a $4000 sidecar you would have to insure the bike for $40K! Do your homework and talk to people who have actually filed claims, not just paid low rates.
Take a look at Brow's Club aka Markel American Ins.1 800 236 2453That is what I have and am very happy with itRon
Thanks Ron, I appreciate your takeing time to reply.

I also have Markel BikeLine insurance ...very happy with it.
low rates..based on whatever you value your bike/rig at.
the sidecar will be considered an accessory there, but with no percentage limit..if you want to insurethe bike for $4000 and SC for $10,000, no problem.
we also have the roadside assistance..I used it 2 years ago when I had a flat out in KS. they sent a flatbed hauler and hauled my rig 30 miles to the nearest MC shop to have the tire repaired. it was paid in full when I got home.

Thanks, I really do appreciate your response, so far it's 2 for Merkel and 1 ,no make that 2 for forget the lizard (Geico)
I've been with Markel through Bros Club (Easy Riders) for a number of years and have been very happy with the rates but haven't had any experience as far as claims go. But recently I noticed motorcycle insurance is available through AARP and filled out the on line form for a quote from them. How ever I didn't have my Markel policy in front of me so I have no idea how close I came to comparing apples to apples. I intend to check further before my current policy expires in July. I've found the people at Markel very easy to deal with as I added the Ural to the Harley policy then sold the Ural and added the Liberty to the Harley. None of that was a problem for them and nothing at all got messed up through out the process.
One more note that might be of some interest to you there in Leavenworth, the owner of Wenatchee Honda was an insurance agent for the insurance I had on previous bikes and the Harley initially. It didn't matter what brand you rode, he'd write a very reasonable policy. But that's been a few years back. The original company was Mid-West Mutual and it merged and became something else over time then something else again. Then the final company quit insuring motorcycles. Now... I don't know if the same guy still owns that Honda shop or if he's still an agent for someone. But my guess is if he does and if he is, he'd be a good guy to talk to. Good luck!
I have been using Dairy Land, a division of Farmers. We checked around and around, and no one could touch them. I have 12 month coverage and have had 2 small claims. Everything was handled very quickly and efficiently. They even dealt with my prefered shop.
The sidecar is an accessory, no limit for accessories.

Ted, I used to have Markland and then my agent switched to Progressive. I never had a claim with Markland but the rates were low. About a week after I switched to Progressive I got in a hail storm in eastern Montana that did about $1700 damage to the bike. This was before I had the sidecar on it. They paid everything willingly and all it cost me was the $100 deductible. When I added the sidecar three years ago there was a added charge but no limit. Hope this helps.

Ted,
I'm with Safco low rates and no limits on added equipment.
We had DAIRYLAND since 1999 on a Yammy Venture and we couldn't find a lower rate. The low rate continued when a Triumph Rocket III was added.
Just last year we went to add our 88 Venture with sidecar. DAIRYLAND's quote was too high so we went huntin' for a good quote and Progressive beat everyone for a 3 bike quote. So now we have PROGRESSIVE.
YES, beware of cheaper rate quotes, but we have never had a claim on anything for at least 15 years.
Our DAIRYLAND agent was in Wenatchee WA
Bruce
in sunny Kalama, WA
That's weird, I went to there site and a agent for Wenatchee was not listed, what I did find was Nationwide, full coverage, road side, total of $7,000 for the sidecar for $142.67 a year, excellent IMHO.
