Hi Group,

So I had to go do the shopping for the month--just go into town and get the staples to stock the pantry for the month. Nothing special. It was chilly here last night, and when I left the house there was frost on the ground where the sun hadn't hit yet.

And some frost on the seat of the Yamaha. Well, that's not good....but I have a towel handy, so I just wiped the seat, tightened the scarf around my neck, and headed for town.

Well, of course I was on the bike. A sunny day in December? I'm certainly not taking a car! Then came the usual trotting through the store, my jacket and helmet sitting on the "kid-seat" of the cart. With a full load of supplies, I pushed to the counter and the woman there checked my food and asked me if I was on a bike. I told her yes, and she asked how in the world I was going to get a cart full of groceries on a bike, and I smiled and said, "Well, I have this sidecar, and..." That's all the further I got. She had to tell me all about her rides with her husband on their bike, and how wonderful it is and how neat having a sidecar would be.

I of course encouraged her to just go get one.....it could work, who knows?

So needless to say, I was smiling all the way home.

Cold? A bit. But offset by brilliant sunshine. One thing though---sometimes I really wish I had a reverse. That would be nice.....

But the nicest thing is just having the chair, and extending my riding season through the winter, and extending the use of the bike/combo for things like grocery shopping. What could beat that??

I love that outfit!! (So I wanted to share...)

Barb:
You are effectively putting a "woman's slant" on this forum. There is no connection to a piece of technology, or a special sub=frame, or even a better way to fart in the bar unnoticed.

Your enthusiasm for riding is contagious...!!

Barb,

I like everything about your post--the everyday way these cool vehicles reshape our days--and that list of bikes following your signature tells me something I didn't know until a few weeks ago about motorcycles: you can't own just one!

Safe riding into the winter!

Tom

Hi Folks,

Wanna know why there was frost on the seat of Barb's combo? I know! I know! Because there's no room for it to be in her shed . . . and her shed is huge. Unless my memory serves me poorly, that list under the signature may have overlooked a couple of other bikes as well.. To say that the lady is a motorcycle enthusiast would be a gross understatement. I am proud to be included among her many friends, and would point to her if asked for an example of what being a motorcyclist is all about . . . please note that I didn't use the term "biker" even once. To paraphrase a saying from the '60's; Ride on, Barb, ride on!

I had two similar things happen, one last week and again yesterday. I was in the local auto parts house wearing a Harper's Moto Guzzi T shirt. The kid at the counter proceeded to tell me all about his mothers old Guzzi with a sidecar. She lives about 10 miles from me and I haven't met her!
Then yesterday I rode to town to get a haircut. The girl cutting my hair commented that the roads were a bit slick to be carrying a helmet. When I said sidecar she smiled and started talking about "Uncle Harvey" and growing up riding in his rig. :0)

Jim Dodson, the late founder of Hack'd mag, was fond of saying "you can't be an introvert and ride a sidecar"
