Found this picture from the first day we got to ride the sidecar back in July of 2011. Then the next one from just this past summer with his new patches.

Dough,
don't loose time, enjoy every moment with your grandson, not any moment will come back.
I lost too much with my own kids while I was busy trying to pay the bills when they were kids.
To be a workaholic is as bad as being on alcohol.

Somebody once told me: "If I would have known that grand kids are such a good fun, I would have had them first."
I had some similar thoughts the other day when I passed these photos from 1994 and 1995 and remembered her fixing the window with a hammer...
The upper one is actually from Willy Willies first day in the family. It was like pulling a cat out of a sack...all 4 wheels were locked. and 9 month later when he was rolling again with a number plate.
Best wishes
Sven

Thanks guys, Love the old Willies , Sven. Kids will only be kids for a short time, let them play , learn and get dirty. Dirt washes off memories dont.

Doug,
that comment reopened a never healed wound. That little girl is now a slim 22 year old student who commits the same mistake as I did when she was small...workaholic.
Times were tough, money was rare and I idiot put my time and health into 2 companies that did pay back in bad coins... In the end, memories are the only that remain. sweat acid but life of its best.
(Memories of happiness that are not shared will loose their value the moment you pass by....comment with a lot of sense from a boy who escaped from home and parished in Alaska some 15-20 years ago)
So best to do is: Live the moment!
While the kids are small take the time and switch off the mind while with them and play as if you would be yourself a kid too.
Worry about the job only while at it.
Anyway there is not any boss nor client who will be willing, nor able to repair the damage you do to your health when working too much or with poor safety equipment or an accident happens.
Each single worker is responsible for his and his colleagues health, so specially the safety rules have to be obeyed.

I lost most of smell, taste and right eye sight due to an idiot who ordered a novice employee to pass chlorine gas from one tank into another without ANY prior training/instruction.

For now Doug, enjoy the grandson and pass over to him and the ones to come the family philosophy and the burning torch.
Best wishes and merry Christmas
Sven

Sven, at least you were honoring your family obligations and providing for them!!! You deserve credit for that. On another note, back in the day I owned 2 Jeepsters, one had Ford v8 engine, and a Jeepster station wagon. It was one of the best cars I ever owned.

Doug, thank you for the credit.
About the V8...shluck.....lots of gas for little use, but for sure a lot of fun stirring mud.

As for today...I put into action the wise words of a good French friend.
"Life is too short for to drink bad wine!"

Nobody in our family drinks...so new years eve will be celebrated with a backed duck and ...style.
Yesterday together with my son (19) and one of his best friends we visited with the rig the new shop of a good colleague for to buy from his son, a professional firework executer, "some" crackers...(450$ = a half to 3/4 month wage for many people here)
As you say, growing old is inevitable, being old is not!
I am tempted to fire up a cigar and a make some rounds through the village "planting" crackers from the rig
So let's play Peter Pan.

Just be careful and stay safe with Aiden and his kid crackers these days.
Guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr.
Sven
