Some of our members have asked questions about the Stripe payments when renewing their memberships online. We used Paypal for many years which most people are familiar with but some had concerns regarding some history of fraud or scam emails using Paypal.
When I researched and selected our new membership management system in 2023 I chose a company that has been doing membership management for over 15 years. They are “Paid Memberships Pro.” And that company selected Stripe as their default payment processing gateway.
From Wikipedia: “Stripe is the largest privately owned financial technology company with a valuation of about $159 billion and over $1.9 trillion in payment volume processed in 2025, processing transactions for 5 million businesses in that year.”
“They are a payment processing platform designed to help businesses accept payments both online and in-person. It is widely utilized by e-commerce websites and mobile applications due to its flexibility and ease of integration.

Stripe Link Wallet
When you check out on our website you will be redirected to the Stripe payment gateway for a secure channel to enter your credit card information. This is off of our website so we don’t see any information that you enter there. Stripe does return to us the last four digits of your card and its expiration date for us to know the payment was made successfully and it is linked to your account so you get credit for it. Note: The last four digits and expiration date is not considered protected information and this is standard industry practice for online payments.
As part of their process they offer a “Link Wallet” for your convenience with future payments. This is just like the Google Wallet, Apple Wallet, and Paypal wallet, and others I’m sure. This is offered as a default option unless you opt-out, so look for the checkbox to decline the Link wallet.
If you didn’t opt out and a wallet was created for you, you can still opt-out and delete the wallet if you think you will never use it. Here are the instructions for how to delete the Link wallet.
How To Delete a Stripe Link Wallet
“It can be incredibly frustrating to have an account or digital wallet created automatically without your explicit consent or a clear way to opt out during checkout. Stripe’s “Link” service is designed to save payment details for one-click checkouts across thousands of sites, but it frequently catches people off guard.
Fortunately, you can completely delete the Link wallet and wipe your saved data directly through Stripe’s dedicated Link support page.
Here is exactly how to remove it:
Step 1: Submit Your Email for Deletion
Because you didn’t set up a traditional password for this wallet, Stripe verifies your identity using your email address.
- Go directly to the official deletion page: support.link.com/how-to-delete-your-saved-payment-information.
- Enter the email address you used when making the online payment.
- Click Send email (or Submit).
Step 2: Confirm the Deletion via Email
- Check your email inbox for a message from Link or Stripe.
- Open the email and click the Delete account link provided inside.
Important Note: Your account and payment details are not actually deleted until you click that confirmation link in your email.
Once you complete these steps, Stripe will scrub your saved payment methods and shipping info from the Link network. If you encounter this checkout system in the future, just be sure to look out for a pre-checked box that says “Save my info for secure 1-click checkout” and uncheck it before finalizing the payment.
