What Did You Do With Your Sidecar Today?

Thanks OldSchool,
These links are a gold mine!
looks like a winter project, I have too much going on this summer to dig into it now.

Petey and I rode the FLH up to Toad Rock east of Nelson BC last Thursday. Came home today to stifling heat. 105 outside right now. Thankful to be in where the ac is running fine. Talking about running fine, the FLH performed flawlessly! Different than when we tried to make the same event a year ago but broke down in Nelson and came home in a U-Haul truck. Had a wonderful, fun, memorable trip this year. Hated to miss the rally at Sturgis, but after last year's disappointment, opted to make this one our priority this year. See ya all at the National next summer.

On way back home from Monumental Rally. From Sturgis rode to Deadwood, then took US 385 through Custer and Hot Springs, SD to US18. Stopped at Winner, SD for the night. Will be home tomorrow. Great to see so many old friends and meet new ones.

Rally Attenders:
Leon Hilfstien broke down and didn't make it to the rally. We had a registration packet made up for him with a t-shirt. He wants his t-shirt. Did some kind, thoughtful soul pick up Leon's packet for him? If so I need to know. Thanks!

I did absolutely nothing with my sidecar today - other than look at it in passing. I rode it home yesterday and put it in the garage and went down in the basement and carried out anything that could be affected by the water seeping in. I vacuumed out about 15 to 20 gallons of water while helping Joan carry stuff upstairs. Daugher-in-law Jeannie, and 2 grandsons (you probably met Alex and Kristoffer at registration) came over to help. Does it sound like I am whining? It is because I am.

Took 'er out for a shakedown run after replacing a head gasket and a car remount/realign. She's been off the road since April, WAY too long! But when I could only manage to work on her a few hours per week, it takes a while.

Old school, what is that? Did you join two velorex boats for to make a 2 seater out of them?
The sheep skin is an excellent idea for cold and hot weather riding. I got white sheep skin in Turkey and it made a great difference when you have 45°C 113°F in the shadow.
Get her on the road again, as that is where a rig belongs.

Today my solo Kawasaki W800 got its new luggage rack for 3* 46 liter Givi boxes prepared "a true recycling project" as I took almost everything from my old KLR rack. Welded it out of 1"*1/8" angle iron and several pieces I turned on the lathe. The strongest luggage rack I ever built or bought for any of my other bikes. "Waltraut" is starting to look as a motorcycle with utility. Next step I will modify the Ural Patrol bench for the W800. 😉

Is it easier to place legs in car? Original velo is rather for small people
For smaller bikes and scooters, Velorex tub could be shortened to get similar visual effect 🙂

Thanks guys, it does feel good to have her back on the road again!

The car is actually a Gemini, built by the Auburn Sidecar Co back in the 1970's I'm guessing. I don't know when Auburn stopped making them, but the molds for the shell eventually found their way to Texas Sidecars where they used them to make their TwinStar model. The molds are lost in a fire and haven't been replaced, so the car by any name is no longer made.

It rides nice with either two kids or an adult with a small dog. I've ridden many miles loaded both ways! It's rather hard for an adult to get in and out. I'm hoping to hinge the front half to make it a tip-nose thus making entry and exit easier.

Took them for a little ride and then washed them up a bit.

For weeks cats and dogs poring down. Today I stepped out of the door for 30 seconds. Passed the day tinkering with a riding gear drying cabinet I make up. Need more insulation material and much stronger fans, but at least I have made the start to pull an idea out of the head and make it true... Thanks to Igor's example I made the step. "Don't dream, make it true."
First test with a wet cloth worked slow due to too many air leaks and no insulation at all and too week fans, but we will improve...

A couple of weeks ago I accepted Jim's invitation to join him for a Mini Bike Run hosted by the vintage motorcycle club in the Hot Springs, Arkansas area.

**Jim rode his YSR50 -see a pic here: http://www.sidecar.com/mbbs22/photos/get-photo.asp?photoid=5748

**But he let me ride The Little Red Rig - see pic here: http://www.sidecar.com/mbbs22/photos/get-photo.asp?photoid=5749

** Sorry, but for some reason the pics are not displaying using the customary protocol(s).

This past weekend we replaced the front brake pads and mounted a new front tire on the GS rig.

I took my first ride on my KLR Hitchhiker rig. I just got it set up this morning before it got to hot.

Been dying to post this message since I got the rig.

I flew my sidecar intentionally today for the first time. Practiced on a nice smooth, paved side pull-off with lots of room for error. Got so I could flip it up and control it pretty consistently. On the way home, took it the full half mile down our road with the chair in the air.

It was a hoot. Might have created a monster here.

regards,
Rob

Today, I finished changing my rear tire on my EML Rig. Whilst I was in there I was able to lube the spline and flush the rear brakes! Woot! Woot!

We took part in the Chicagoland/Wisconsin Ride for Kids in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, today. I was blessed to be able to provide escort for a young lady recovering from a brain tumor along with her mother. The ride thru the southern Wisconsin countryside was beautiful and we has a great time.

Took the Triumph T100 w/Velorex on a 125 miles ride down into the Willamette Valley south of Portland. Temps in the 90's. Wonderful ride, wonderful day. Would you believe 42.5 mpg! That's about average for most of the rides I've taken.

Yesterday we returned from Friutgarden Rally. Photo of my own rig and my last work - Romen's rig:

The only photo, taken just before sudden storm started. And after rally the next two rigs are in plans. Our hosts want two Romet Ogar 125cc bikes with Velorexes, to ride with their small sons to Romet fans rallies.

What did I do with my Sidecar today? Well I broght home a NEW one. Not a new to me rig but a 2015 Ural cT. I made a short ride in the rain. =)

How do you like it?
