Velorex 560 Sidecar on a 1984 BMW R100RT

Guys and Gals, I have been lurking on this site for about three months, trying to get as much info as I can concerning sidecars. Purchased a 1984 R100RT last fall. Wife rides her own bike and the idea of adding a sidecar to the RT for camping and hauling our gear set in. Found a Velorex 560 close to home and plan to ride up and look it over this Wednesday. From the pic's it looks like it is in really good shape for it's age. Came off a R90RT, the owner thought he would like a sidecar and has now changed he's mind and would like to sell it.

Couple of questions - Is this sidecar to light for my RT?
If it needs parts, will finding them be an issue?
What does one of these sidecars normally sell for?

Looking forward to any info or help you can give me.

The Velorex is a bit light for your bike however the 560 is a stronger sidecar then many of the newer Velorex sidecars and with ballast should be fine on your bike. One issue I would check is make sure that it was mounted with proper bike specific sub frames not simply the Velorex "universal" type mounts as your BMW frame tubing is very thin and the "universal" type clamps tend to damage the frame. We have seen BMW frames split in half due to universal type frame clamps. If it has one of our sub frames chances are that the lower fairing was removed as on the RT you have to cut up the lower quite a bit for our sub frames to work. (BTW never heard of an R90RT, fairly sure that the R100 was the first RT)

Jay, thank you for getting back to me. 1st your right, it was mounted on a R90 not a r90rt. Owner pulled if off and is cutting up the R90 to make a cafe racer out of it. The velorex will be coming home with me this Saturday. It is in prefect shape for it's age. The only thing missing is the windshield, it is in pieces and the hunt is now on for a replacement. We have a sidecar expert here in Iowa, I think he is around Fairfax. I have talked to him on mounting and plan to visit with him once I get it home. Once again, thank you for getting back to me, I may be asking more questions as time goes on.

With our mounts no reason you can not mount the sidecar your self, not all that hard to do. http://www.bikescreen.com has the windshield.
