was wondering if anyone from the houston area is planning on going to the meet? thanks johnny

hey jobob;
i am in huntsville and i hope to go.

jobob, it appears one of the Soviet Steed folks will be trailering up from the general Houston metro area.

cool! we plan on trailering too. .. we live near alvin tx on the south side of houston and just cant' make ourselves ride the rig in the houston traffic to get across town. it would be a nice ride for us if we could just get past houston. i'm a new rider and the rig isnt' really proven so we'll just trailer it too. johnny

hey johnny,
trailering might be best for other reasons, but if you'd rather drive the rig then you could take 517 to 146 and go north to Dayton, make a jog east on 90 to Liberty and catch 146 again to go north to Livingston. from there maybe 59 to Marshal and 43 north to catch 2198? to Uncertain.
we don't like the freeway either, especially in Houston, so 146 is our way down to Galveston. i'll probabably run this route to the rally, at least from Livingston.

well thats a route i'll check out. i haven't even thought about that way. we'll trailer this time for several reasons.. houston traaffic is one of them.. but the rig is still largely unproven and not really ready for a long trip at least in my mind. i got it back together last night and wow the handling was all over the place with a big unexpected low speed tank slapper that scared the crap outta me. almost got out of my hands and who knows where the rig would have gone. the big goldwing is not fun to drive when it isn't right. back to the basics with toe in checks and re adjust the lean and re inflate the tires back up... and got the good handling back. its fun to drive when its right but doestn' take muc h to get wild and not fun at all. the toe had somehow got off and was actually toed out maybe a quarter inch. thinking this winter i'll take the time to make the front mount into a positive adjustable mmount with jam nuts instead of the universal clamp tthat is has now. i'm thinking one of the mounts is slipping and will likely continue to slip. hard to find a trailer wide enough to handle this rig but i did and hope to see you all soon. apparently we are the only ones coming from houston. johnny

Art and Rosa will be driving up to Uncertain from Brazoria, Tx. We have to get to Uncertain somewhat early on Thursday since we are taking the tamales for the evening feed. Most likey, we will leave Wednesday afternoon/ evening, spent the night on the north side of Houston and continue on Thursday AM.

We will be taking 288 to 59 and then just follow the GPS to Uncertain.
Actually, driving the Houston freeways would not be bad if they would get rid of all those parked cars!!!

well hope to see you guys up there or on the road. the latest wrinkle is i have the rig back together and now i have a nail in the back tire. major pia on a wing. yhou know the trunk off and the bags off and jack the whole thing up and etc etc. tore it down this pm and to the tire shop tomorrow. would like to get some short trips on the rig to get some confidence that it won't leave us stranded. still not sure why i get terrible milage. 22 mpg sint' all that great. hope it comes together soon. johnny

Art, do you need us to arrange for a propane cooker or such?

Jobob, we're hoping you get that flat tire patched up. Yell
