Starting a West Coast WA to LA Griffith Park Sidecar Rally Adventure

Page 1 of 2Next

On Sept 5th, I'm starting an adventure down the Pacific Coast Highway.
I've bought a Honda/CA sidecar rig in WA. I'm planning on picking it up and driving it down to Griffin Park Rally.
I've been to Doug Bingham's Rally before.....it's fantastic.
Jay Leno has a "new" old sidecar rig.......maybe he'll bring it.

Purchase was to take the trip.

Anyone else going down the Coast?

That would be the 41st Griffith Park Sidecar Rally, Sunday September 16th.

Sounds like all is going well. Hope you are having a great time. Ride safe.

You missed a lot in Washington and Oregon by taking the slab and catching the beauty Hiway 101.
Maybe some other time.

Lonnie

I've only been on the slab 60 miles....late yesterday....otherwise all 2 lane

What route would that be?

Numerous routes really...Out of Seattle RT 2 to Wenatchee RT 97 S to Yakima (stayed the night)...continue 97 to Columbia River & OR boarder.....continue on 97 S to Bend OR then RT 126 W to Eugene OR (stayed the night)...continue on 126W to the Pacific Ocean...then 101 S along the coast to Eureka CA (staying there tonight).....tomorrow....continue RT 101 & RT 1 S toward San Francisco.....thanks for asking

You've seen lot of high desert going that way, the PCH will be a good break.

How's the rig running?

Lonnie

My Rig is running really good.....no complaints.
It's gearing is very good.....easy to keep in the power range....
The twisties have been many...many...many....but with care I'm engaging them.
The cloud cover on the PCH is somewhat of a relief....

PCH - good choice for scenery and mindful riding. 🙂
Ride safe.. See ya at the Rally.
Gail

p.s. There is a a nice pull-out to view the Elephant Seals about 7 miles north of San Simeon. Watch for cars pulling out.
Additional NOTE: Gorda makes the news for the highest gas prices in the state, and it appears that they are proud of it. 🙂

Well...all I can say is Fantastic!!!!

I'm now down in San Fran area.
I've had a wonderful trip.
2 scary monments...not that scary...but a little maybe....
Tremendous back roads...some were all to myself.
Taking a slow easy, fun pace...really enjoying myself.

About 1200 miles so far...
Probably 2 to 3 thousand curves.....probably 250 very sharp curves w/ 20 mph suggested speed signs

I'm on schedule for GRIFFITH PARK SIDECAR RALLY Sept 16th!!!!

there are more curves between San Fran and LA. 🙂
Ride safe -
See ya at the rally.
gail

Be sure to buy some of that "cheap" regular gas near Big Sur. Heh, Heh.

Down to LA now

It was well worth the effort....

I had a safe, fun trip....with plenty of twisties!!!

Look forward to the Griffith Park Sidecar Rally Sunday Sept 16th.
