saying hello for the first time

Hi everyone

I'm from Alberta Canada, got me a Sporty with a DMC M72C hack....not quite all together right now ,but I'm working on it. This is my 39th year riding scoots but my first with a rig.
Should be fun 🙂 I have the usual head scratching ?? to myself, like steering dampers? and or rake trees?? and so on so on.

I'll try not to be too much of a pain with questions, but I'm sure I'll have a few.

Thanks for your patience

Regards

Frank.

The Bigfoot sidecar club is having an event that several people from Alberta are going to http://www.bigfootsidecarclub.com

Steering dampers and raked tree's are done for different reasons. Raked tree's lower the steering effort, steering dampers are if you have front end shake. More often then not our rigs do not need a damper. We offer both a damper and tree's

Yep it's at Toad rock campground in the Kooteneys ...nice place.

I'm heading in the other direction around that time for a CVMG gathering.

I'm still debating on the rake tree's thing ,but I do have ya in mind for a few things 🙂

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your rig. I too have over about 30+ year riding bikes, but only two years on a rig. So due to my experience with my inexperience with rigs I recommend you find training to ride a rig. I have read up on a couple of manuals and practiced a great deal riding slowly and with about 100 of ballast in the side car. I say this only because on my first day of riding (traveling light with no ballast), no matter how much two wheel riding I have had, I ended up surprised when the car flew and the counter-steering factor cut in and I ended up on the left side of a curve. It surprised me so quickly and it felt like I was on ice. I still ride with 80 lbs as ballast or a passenger now so I don't get any surprises on how tricky a rig might get. Enjoy your rig when you get it on the road.

Welcome, Frank, from the muggy depths of Ontario.

If you survive, you will enjoy piloting a rig. If you don't, you won't.
