Removing footrest

I have a 2007 H-D Ultra with matching sidecar. One would think that there is a lot of room in it to stretch out your legs buy therein lies the problem. My wife who is 6'3" and thin cannot stretch out her legs as they hit the foot rest and her knees are quite uncomfortable wedged up against the dash. Why the foot rest is installed so close is beyond me as there is plenty of room from it to the nose of the sidecar. Our rig is pure stock H-D, no modifications to it by the way. I was wondering if I could remove the footrest panel so she can then stretch out her legs. Would this deteriorate the integrity of the sidecar any? As it is now if a passenger is near 6 foot or taller it makes for a uncomfortable ride having your knees wedged against the dash. Shame since a H-D sidecar is nice and long. Has anyone ever ran into this issue? If you prefer you can e-mail me directly at :
