Ontario Bill M117
Quote from Guest on November 8, 2008, 7:55 amI had this email today from R&T Motorad. If you live in Ontario Tom would like to hear from you.
______________________________________________________________________Hello everyone,
I am collecting names of people who oppose the Ontario Bill M117. Please pass this on to anyone who might help our cause. Remember snowmobiles and ATVs could be next on the list. This amendment will include all motorcycles, sidecar bikes, trikes, Bombardier Spyders and any other vehicle that presently requires a class M license to operate. Highway means any assumed road in Ontario and "on" can mean on the back seat or on the seat in a sidecar. Do not be miss guided by terminology. Some riders I have spoke with already think they are not effected because of this wording. They will be affected !
This private members bill was introduced by MPP Ms. Dr. Helena Jaczek:The bill amends the Highway Traffic Act to: prohibit driving or operating a motorcycle on a highway while a person under the age of 14 is a passenger on the motorcycle with a view to promoting safety on Ontario's roads and protecting youth from preventable injuries.
I am opposed to Bill M117 on the grounds that it prevents families from enjoying motorcycling together.
This bill does not recognize that motorcycling is an enjoyable pastime and an efficient means of transportation for many families.
This bill does not take into consideration that our children and grandchildren are with us spending quality time learning values that we as Canadians hold in high regard.
This bill does not acknowledge that motorcycling is a major factor to the health and well being of the families who are involved in it.
I ask that my elected MPPs oppose this bill on these grounds. If you agree with the above statements in blue please fill in your information below and return to porkchopp@lks.net

Sounds like another attempt at reducing liberty. Well, i for one hope this one stays in that province! I think we should speak in hushed tone about this. ! ???

Is the bill dead?
Even if it is some other MP could just reword it slightly and slip it back in the works and have it slip through and there goes another liberty we all take for granted. Time to get an MP that actually rides and enjoys it. And not just play lip service to hear there own voices.

Quote from Guest on September 1, 2010, 2:48 amWell then, if it is truly dead, I guess you can ignore the info I sent off as requested.
Gotta watch this stuff though, Alberta has had many changes vis-a-vis probationary licensing, age requirements, etc since I took up riding back in the nineties. Here I had wanted to teach my step-daughter starting on her 14th, seems it will have to wait two years, and I'll have to buy her a new bike as she won't be able to even try out let alone learn on her honda c70 for another two years. All for an extra 20cc's, and the same power as a two-stroke 50 besides. Motorcycle legislation should be drafted by motorcyclists. It's not like the folks who drew up automobile legislation were non drivers. Well, maybe at first, in the horse and buggy days. But you get my point. -Sigh.

When Wisconsin first required a motorcycle license, they had a series of licenses. If I remember right, there were three different ones, three wheels only, under 149cc, and unlimited. My brother in law had an old Jawa 125? He managed to convince the examiner that it had been bored to 150 so he could get an unlimited license.
Maybe you can tell them it was "detuned" . 🙂
