Front tire for my 82GL1100A

Good day all. Hope the Frankenstorm misses all my friends. Question reguarding tires, a lot of the trikes are running the Michelin Pilot Activ rear tire on the front with excellent results. Do you all think it would be equally as good for the 82 with motorvation formula 2. I am currently running Dunlop E3 an am not happy with the tread design, it sings and does not seem to be able to last 10,000 miles. (I used to get 18000 on elite 2s). reversing the tire or running it with the arrow going forward. What are your thoughts.
Thanks Dave

On the 1983 GL1100A that I put 150K on with a sidecar I ran a Metzler K block tire on teh front. This is a flat profile tire made for sidecar use. It comes in one size only 4:00 18. I suspect that the Michelin would also work well on the front.

I use a Dunlop E3 on my '82 Wing and always get at least 10,000 miles on it. Are you running it at 40 psi ? That works for me.
I did try a Michelin M50 rear tire on the front several years ago but for some reason it would break traction on hard braking. Was scary and dangerous. Never had problem with E3's. Doug

I agree with Doug Hasert. I ran a Michelin Pilot Activ rear tire on the front of my GL1500 with Champion Escort, it broke traction and locked the front wheel very easily, by the way I ran 42 PSI in it. The front tire locked up in a panic stop, and I had an accident, and totaled the bike and sidecar. It was giving great tread wear, and proably would have lasted at least 20K, but you really need to have excelent braking skills, to not lock it up in a panic.

Thanks for the info all, Saftey is aconcern. I guess the big thing is the tread pattern on the E3 lends itself to a two wheeler. I still have tread left at 8000 miles, I will buy a tire with a center cut tread which is more pronounced the next go round (like the Elite2's). Do you believe that the hardness of the rear tire in the front led to the poor stopping ability?
Again thanks Dave
