Exploring Costa Rica.

Quote from Peter Pan on July 11, 2014, 12:45 amSomething I have been moving in my head for a long time seems to get into a reachable range.
For 25 years I have been exploring Costa Rica and know many places that even few Costarricans have an idea of.
So I will try to public the beautiful roads.
For the moment I think to use a software/app called wikiloc.com.
If somebody can recommend something better and easier to use and publish, please feel free to point me into a better direction.
For today I will point out my escapes of this week.Regards from Don Quijote de la Mancha / possible with a street bike or rig

Quote from Peter Pan on September 14, 2014, 10:22 pmYesterdays escape had been planted by the comment 2 years ago by the comment of a rider of one of these huge enduros. KTM or BMW.
There is not any road to the north from the interamerican highway between San Ramon and Esparza. 60km serpentines with great views into a unpopulated valley.
For month occasiones were lost once and again. Yesterday I just left home at dawn for the exploration... It was worth it.http://en.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=7792006
Highway to the north, passing once again a huge hole in the interamerican "high"way that was there 25 years ago on my first visit to the start town of San Ramon.
Made the turn with the help of GPS. And thennnn.
And then..from Esparza to Atenas... Had a race uphill over one of the nicest roads I know. The first ocassion I passed through that road 25 years ago I dreamt of racing it with a rig. A few years ago I did it with Jolly Roger 2 and my son. But this time in the manner like I dreamt it with open eyes....left,right bowing over like a happy monkey with squeeking tires. (210 deg F was max oil temp.)So enjoy...English and German text come soon.

Quote from Peter Pan on September 17, 2014, 7:07 pmHere somebody else marked up one of my favourite escape rides!
From the Irazú vulcano top over the saddle to the Turrialba vulcano passing agricultural land and rain forest with marvellous views!
http://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=1918000
When I came back from the Hanover fair in 2012 the plane was right above the Turrialba vulcano with its fumarolas when the sun came out.
That view is engraved in my memory.
Sorry such a moment should not be interrupted by a camera.
So it didn't happen? Nonsense.

Quote from Peter Pan on February 28, 2015, 5:57 pmToday I rob 2 videos from Wild Rider for to give you some taste of our local riding:
Vladim are you there? Were your roads like these?A few of these "roads" I did myself on 2 and 3 wheels, but there are worse ones. 😛
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=22FcGzf1R24The following video might not be perfect, but imagine the age of the rider 83. Time to pull the hat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2dQiqGO4cNAI dream with open eyes about water cooling, and a low gear range for Sophie. A winch would not hurt neither. 😛

Quote from Peter Pan on March 9, 2015, 6:21 pmThis Sunday I faked, I took the car with a good reason...it was wet on the cordillera and STEEP around the dam area. I did not remember it was that steep when I did this tour with my Jawa rig a few years ago.
So remember even when a car has ABS. Breaks still can overheat!
A turn around the Pirris dam.

PS; Vadim. your wife would have gone on strike, like mine nearly did too.

Quote from Peter Pan on March 22, 2015, 9:10 amDave,
once You get out of the trafic of Central valley, this country is mind blowing with its beeauties. but it is totally frustrating in the crowded areas.
The idea of this thread is to invite others to adventure themselves out of the comon tracks and enjoy exploring.
In CR the beauty starts right out off the typical tourist traps and the city limits.
There is still a lot of original country ground to explore.
And the nicest people you find in the back lands. The texts in the wikiloc site are in 3 languages on this same purpose. explore and have fun.

Quote from Peter Pan on December 6, 2015, 1:58 am2 nice roads for adventurous natures that look worse on the map then they are in deed. But take a filled ice box with you for a picknick, because there are no snack bars nor neighbourhood shops on them.
http://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=11588629http://es.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=11588681
Both roads are pretty easy, but long and solitary.

Quote from DRONE on January 27, 2016, 11:45 amThe Wikiloc website is pretty amazing. I'd not seen it before. Thanks for posting all these rides. I can only dream of going there.
Unless there is a sidecar rental business in San Jose?

Quote from Peter Pan on January 27, 2016, 11:58 amNed,
there is at least one solo motorcycle rental down town...BMW and Harley are too pricey for me to consider them as serious offers.
http://www.wild-rider.com/our-motorcycles/I was trying to convince them to add a rig to their stable, but, haven't had luck yet. (sadly any dummy can rent a car but the solo bikes eat up the car earnings in maintenance and ...now imagine rigs on our streets and roads...was their answer several times)(more then one rider they had to send home with plaster casts, and they do not want to send anybody home in a box.)
I consider the option in case some surpluss money comes into the cashier perhaps in setting up a KLRrig as social service...pretty difficult to fulfill after the accumulated losses in the last years.

Quote from Peter Pan on April 6, 2018, 11:02 pmA new ride in hot summer while you were shivering with cabin fever:
March 18th I searched for access to the continental division.
In Zarcero from both sides all you have to look for is the road or the farm Chayote = watersquash.https://es.wikiloc.com/rutas-moto-enduro/la-division-continental-se-busca-persiguiendo-la-chayotera-de-zarzero-23800105
Photos will come later too. It was an adventure on a solo street bike, where a motocross bike was needed.
And where the rig never would have entered....former oxcart roads, that now are just good enough for horses.
As older you get. as more right you have to play!!!
Sven 😉

Quote from Peter Pan on February 18, 2019, 9:05 amA new exploring trip: I ask myself how a Ural can last such steep climbes. For something I am on my 4th final drive. The first 98km were the interesting parts and their unpaved parts were mind / bike blowing.
Now we have a Ural rental too

Telephone +506-40004445.
On the way home I got stuck in such a traffic jam that confirms the statement from before:)
