Adventure Sidecar 2009 S/TEP classes

I am a firm believer that drivers education is the best way to
improve ones safety and enjoyment regardless if you are driving a
car, an ATV, motorcycle or sidecar.

There are only a handful of sidecar classes offered in the US and as
far as I know the Adventure Sidecar classes are the only ones using
KLR 650s and the only ones done on dirt. The techniques taught
translate directly into street skills-the dirt surface requires
finesse. If you can do it here you can do it on the street, in the
rain or in gravel!

Adventure Sidecar Novice S/TEP classes for the 2009 season will be
available through Hood River Community Education on the following
weekends:

May 8, 9 & 10

June 19,20 & 21

July 17,18 & 19

August 7,8 & 9

The course fee is $225. Registration opens in March. More information
can be found on our website adventuresidecar.com

Prior motorcycle experience is not needed for the novice class. We
will cover basic motorcycle operation as part of the class. You must
be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's license to take
the class. If you are under 18 years old you must have a waiver
signed by a parent or legal guardian. Each class is limited to 12
students for safety and quality reasons.

You may take the class using your sidecar or trike or one of ours. If
you choose to use your own rig for the class, you must have proof of
insurance and the machine must be in a safe operating condition.

Be aware the driving exercises will be conducted on a grass lot.

Vernon,
Can you post contact info where folks can call to sign up?
And maybe the names of a couple local motels?
I'm hoping to send a couple folks over there this year. Thanks

I took Vern's class two or three years ago and it was a valuable experience. The class was very well organized and taught very well.

The only bad thing is that if you don't have a sidecar rig yet, after taking the class you will absolutely have to have one. I didn't have one, now I do.

Yahoo! ! !

Hi there:

I live just a couple of hours away, and may be interested in these courses. I reviewed your website, but had a couple of unanswered questions. In particular:

1) Is there a difference in price whether we use our own sidecar outfit or one of yours; and

2) Is there a discount available if I sign-up and pay for BOTH my wife and myself. That is, two students rather than one.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Karl! Thanx for the kind words! Come on up the Gorge sometime and we'll go for a ride...

Hood River Community Education handles registration and tuition. They won't be ready to start signing people up until sometime in March-they are still getting organized for Spring quarter. I will post the phone # and email in March when registration opens.

I try and keep it simple so there is less work for community ed and less chance for confusion. The price is $225, no increase from last year. There is no extra charge to use one of our rigs during class and it's also fine to use your rig or switch between our rigs and your rig if you want to experience how different outfits handle. I am sorry but I am not in a position to offer discounts.

I send out information about lodging with the packets I mail students a couple of weeks before class. I've been told that it is difficult to reserve a room in Hood River even 3 weeks ahead of time during the summer so I guess I should put that information on my website. I will try to do that this week. In the meantime check out the chamber of commerce info at: http://www.hoodriver.org/HRCCC_CategoryTemplate.asp?CategoryINDX=414

My freinds from out of town often stay at The Vagabond Lodge. It has nice rooms and is moto friendly, but it is on the outskirts of town.

Hope this helps

No worries on the discount. The fact that the use of your rig without an extra charge is, frankly, more than fair.

I have to say, Hood River is a great little town, and anybody visiting for the course should strongly consider an extra day, at least, to check out some of the local haunts. We head up there a couple of times a year just to spend the day.

Thanks again for the information, the response, and for putting on the training.

The Vagabond is an excellent place to stay. Not too expensive either. As for being on the outskirts of town, Hood River's not that big a town. No problem. Really enjoyed my two nights there.

Karl

PS Vern. Would love to ride with you sometime. The problem, as I know you're aware, is finding the time!
