PreviousPage 10 of 14Next

I like you attitude. The final preps are in motion but no matter what - WE WILL HAVE A GREAT RALLY!!!! We have over 160 registered so far. Many of them are first time rally-ers. Whether you come as a newbie or old timer we are going to have a good time and see lots of neat stuff.

I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Black Hills Rally and some of you in Gardiner and Red Lodge.
Honda VTX 1300 with Velorex Sidecar and Mini Mate Tent Camper behind the bike.
For those who have asked, YES! I finally finished my book "Discovering Life After Alzheimer's - The 26,000 Mile Ride Across America."

Spring has sprung, summer is here and we have been busier than a cat on tin roof but we is going. Daughter is getting married this Sat, so do I need to say more on the busy part..... Wife is leaving mid week after wedding -- returns Sunday evening and we leave Monday morning for the rally -- 1400 miles to run and hoping for good weather. See you all there.

Art,

I saw this in a pizzeria in Ohio while I was stopped to see our Midwest Director, Dave Szkudlarek. I figure it must be the Norwegian spelling.

'See you in Sturgis!

I'm in Champaign, IL for the rest of the weekend and plan to leave for Colorado on Monday, weather being a factor. I expect to arrive at the campground some time on the 24th. I need to call them and add the 24th to my stay dates. The Valk/super-sport are working very well. I'm looking forward to riding up Pikes Peak and Mount Evans amid other sites while in Colorado. See y'all at Sturgis.

We are looking forward to meeting you - Leon!

Hey Folks!! I just received registration 170. WOW!!!

Anyone going from Washington state? We live near Tacoma and will be leaving June 20th. Maybe we could form a sidecar convoy.

While traveling to Sturgis I am thinking about a slight detour to Beartooth Pass, just because I haven't been there. I checked current road conditions and the pass is open. Is there anything I should know ahead of time. I have a Goldwing/Escort rig if that matters.

Will,

There will be a group of us crossing the BTP on Tuesday afternoon 6/23. Planning on being at Cooke City/Silver Gate at about 2PM. If you'd like you can join us for more of the trip. See our best guess itinerary below...

We [TLMaryann and I] are staying in cheap motels that seem to be friendly and clean. Here are our reservations...

The Yodler Motel, Red Lodge, MT. They are open and you can call them at 866-446-1435 or 406-446-1435. One of the owners, Tulsa [she] is a sidecar driver! For details http://www.yodelermotel.com/

Wednesday, June 24 [one night only]

On Thursday we should be back in Sturgis and you can settle into your accommodations for the rally. Call me with questions or send an email to Al@AlOlme.com. If you are planning to come, please let me know but it's never too late to change your mind and come anyway [although you may be sleeping on the ground].

We crossed the Beartooth a couple of years ago on a GL1800/Hannigan outfit pulling a cargo trailer. It's a great ride.

Kinda fun looking down at all those glaciers.

We rode over Beartooth Highway three years ago on the way back from the Coeur d'Alene national rally. We rode from Red Lodge to the Chief Joseph Highway and then to Cody. We tried to drive it maybe 6 years ago in June and couldn't because of snow and ice on the highway. You have to watch the weather and call ahead to see if it is open.

Thank you all for your responses concerning Bear Tooth Pass. Al Olme, I am printing out your schedule just in case we can cross paths. We are leaving from Washington on Saturday, June 20 and will be checking into our motel Tuesday, June 23. We wanted to get there a few days early to explore on our own a little. If we don't make it to BTP before the rally we have over a week to get back home. We might travel the Going to the Sun highway in Glacier National Park if it opens soon. At the present time it is still closed. The first time I tried to travel Going to the Sun it was still closed. The next time was in 2003, the road was open when we left home, circled around in Canada but when we reach the park it was being evacuated because of forest fires. Hopefully the third time will work.

Will, I hope we cross paths on the road but if not we'll see you at the rally. We're leaving on Friday morning.

Of all the places my bride and I have traveled in this beautiful country the Going to the Sun Highway has got to be near the top of our list.
