I purchased a California sidecar, early friendship model. Would like to mount it to my Fatboy. I think it would look nice. I am familiar with the early california sidecars. I have a Companion model the same age on a 85 FLT. I have grown an addiction to using it. i have several bikes but the sidecar is my favorite. I just want to get some ideas on what the mounts may look like and where they can go.

Liberty mounts their sidecars to softtails. You might not be able to see the mounts very well but there are some pictures on their website. http://libertysidecars.us/media-gallery/photo/
We offer mounts for your bike, if this sidecar is an older one make sure that you do not use the old style ball collet mounts on the lowers as they are known to fail.

thanks, I have familiarized myself with the older California sidecars. As I said I have a Companion version. I had to upgrade the mounts and bought them off you guys for my FLT. I am going to try to do these mounts myself but may turn again to you guys.
Not to hijack, but have often thought about putting a hack on my Fatboy. I am curious if the frame is strong enough as-is or if it needs a subframe?

The frame is strong enough however you do need proper mounts in order to locate the pick up points correctly. Many people will call this a sub frame. On some bikes a sub frame is needed as the frame is not strong enough to mount as sidecar or as is the case with many modern bikes there may not be any lower frame at all. In general simply "clamping" a sidecar to your bike gives less then satisfactory results while using proper mounts that move the mounting points further apart then other wise the frame allows and puts the lower mounts equal distance from the ground gives you much better results.
