@miles-ladue I hear that a ride in the desert is relaxing...

I went through the desert on a horse with no name...
Illegitemi non carborundum est!

Been lurking and enjoying your adventure vicariously. Most of my efforts this winter have been more unpacking and sorting out the garage and workspace layouts. Glad all is going well on your adventure Miles. Once you get back I hope we can follow up on your invite to look my "Bessy" (Bmw Side Car BSC,) over with me. I'll be making time to get back to looking the rig over and fix up some of the things that bug me. Haven't made time to practice riding it that much between the weather and chores so hopefully I'll get to that before you get back from Scotland. Happy trails.

Neil, I am now back from Scotland, and Germany, and the Netherlands....
Leaving again on April 2nd, so let's look at your Bessie sometime in March.
When you come over, and you may want to come over much sooner, with a pickup or trailer, you can pick through all the things in my shop, and take home a pickup load for FREE, of steel shelves, tools, etc, etc, etc.

@miles-ladue Sounds good, I am pretty well setup but always worth a look. I'm about to trade my truck and travel trailer in on a small Class C Motorhome so may have to see. The plan being to eventually tow Bessie behind the camper occasionally. Sad I didn't jump on Drone's trailer but we didn't expect to be changing rigs, then.

Been e-mailing back and forth, or to and fro, with Chris Knopf, Son of Stefan Knopf (why they didn't name him Stefanson..I do not know)
getting all my paperwork in order, update on the shipping of the Euro-Wing sidecar rig, floating around in the middle of the Atlantic right now, and is now scheduled to arrive in Heidelberg, Germany on April 16th....about 10 days earlier than we had planned for it to arrive.
That means shuffling and rearranging hotel stops, schedules, etc, so we can utilize the Euro-Wing sidecar rig as much as possible.
All that is done now, but the one "pain" is that Green Card insurance for traveling around Europe is NOT cheap.
You have a choice of basic liability, or full comprehensive coverage. The basic liability coverage is not cheap either, as it costs around $ 275.00 USD for just a 30 day time period. But the full comprehensive coverage (which is what I always go for) is costing me $ 459.00 USD for only 30 days of coverage.
Now, in all fairness, if you buy a 60 day policy, or a 90 days policy, or plan on coverage for a full year, then the added months are less each month than the original 30 days, but it still is 10x higher than what I pay in the US for full coverage on 3 motorcycles, one which is my BattleWing Galactica sidecar rig, and it has huge coverage on it.
I was not pleased that my car insurance coverage...again full comprehensive...for my Subaru XV Hybrid I bought in Germany 2 months ago, is costing me $ 1,680.00 USD per year, as that is what I pay in the US for TWO Subaru's and a BearTrack trailer, with Superior Coverage levels.
Man.....insurance in Europe is expensive !
But the alternative is more expensive.
I guess, contrary to my normal way of insuring my vehicles, I will probably only cover this Euro-Wing sidecar rig for short periods at a time, when I know I will actually be IN Europe, and actually planning on driving that sidecar rig around Europe.

Not to be a bearer of negative thoughts, but if you only insure the rig when you are actually riding it in the EU, what happens if there is a fire while it is stored?

Insurance there would give me the irrit's......

In that scenario...then 100's of motorcycles from around the globe would burn up in a massive fire, able to be seen by the International Space Station.
It would cost me approx $ 5,000.00 USD to insure my Euro-Wing sidecar rig for a full year, of full comprehensive coverage, and even then the policy only covers up to 21,500.00 Euro in loss, with an additional 2,500.00 Euro for any/all accessories, which means that in a 100% total loss situation, I would only recover about 53% of the value of this Euro-Wing sidecar rig.
On shipping it via Haulbikes, and shipping it overseas with Knopf Tours, I paid extra to have it insured for $ 40,000.00 coverage.
"LIFE"....is a risky proposition, at best, whether getting in or out of the shower, or driving through traffic to work (for you people that still work), or eating a leafy salad at a restaurant....we all take risks everyday in LIVING our lives.

Wow!
Since you have an address in Scotland, could you use Bennetts? Or since it will be stored in Europe does it require an insurance carrier in the "Motherland"? Seems like there are a lot of folks from the island that take extended rides into the EU, and beyond.

Hope your flight is going great! Looking forward to reading on the progress on the shipment, and your overall thoughts at completion of this adventure. 😎

Scott, our flight was over days ago. We landed in Frankfurt, Germany on April 3rd, retrieved our car from the airport parking garage, drove up to the Subaru dealer outside of Cologne, Germany to have a new battery installed (pre-planned... appointment was scheduled) then drove to Maastricht, Netherlands for a 2 nights stay at a quaint hotel that sits on top of Roman ruins, so breakfast every morning was in the underground level where you are literally eating next to preserved Roman ruins.
Then we drove to Antwerp, Belgium, which is where we are now. Going to visit a 10th century Castle in Ghent, and the marketplace in Bruges today.
The word from Stefan Knopf is that the Sidecar rig will arrive in Heidelberg about April 17th, but then they have Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday that might interfere with officials being available to do their jobs....so maybe get my hands on it April 22nd.
